Yaa...,if u have $$ go and buy 5D,i would say it's a good cam slightly better then my 20D.I own canon 5D & nikon D2X and what i see the resolution almost the same.5D good on it higher ISO n full frame and D2X good for faster frame shot n 2X crop function. This two are totally different and i use it also on diff purpose. But i like 5D most cos of the high ISO n full frame.
Now my dream lens is 135 f2 L.May i know how much is this lens?

the 135mm f2 should be $1350 in CP

very tempted to get the 5D now but will prob wait for the next generation. i have upgraded twice and it has cost me 2k.

Thks Belle&Sebastain for the price info.I have try this lens before on to my 5D when i was in Taiwan 2 week ago but the price abit high.

Has anybody use the Picture Styles on 5D? Any experiences to share about?

Used the 5D for the past 4 months, here are my thoughts:

Pros:

1. Noise control is excellent. ISO 1600 is very usable.
2. Superb details.
3. Highlights doesn't clip as badly as 1D mk2, slightly more latitude.
4. White balance is really good, except that it tends to be slightly cooler than the 1 series (assuming both 1D2 and 5D are set at AWB, 5D images tends to look a tad cooler).

Cons:
1. USB 2.0 can't beat Firewire in terms of stability. Sometimes had to restart software on my powerbook G4 as well as cam in order for it to work again, else cam just display 'BUSY'. For those who doesn't shoot tenthered, you can ignore this one, hehe. Seldom had that issue with the 1D mk2 and 1Ds.

2. Jpeg file not that great compared to jpeg straight off from the 1 series. Noticeable difference between jpeg straight off from cam and jpeg rendered from RAW. Bottom line is, shoot RAW for the 5D, you won't go wrong.

One thing to note though, to harness the full capabilities of the 5D, you need good optics. Distortion that you've never seen b4 in your lenses will surface... For studio shoot, the 135 f2L stays on the cam most of the time :D

Quite agreed jpg in 5D CMI...but raw on 12.8mb will slow my workflow lei...a few hundreds shot per wedding or events....is there any minor tweak can improve the jpg?

Er, events I don't shoot with 5D, it's overkill. 1D is more than enough.

Got my 5d around 8 months back for use at work, here's my views on it.

What i LOVE about it:

1. Noise control at 1600 is SHIOK!!!!!
2. Not as !@$!$@ heavy and big as the 1 series
3. More latitude and working space with the RAW files.

What i HATE about it:

1. !$@!@$ PRICE for a NON pro body?
2. ran through my 2nd body liao, not as well built as the 1 series though it costs as much. (thing basically fell apart after 8 - 10 shoots under working conditions.)
3. Crazy price drop after only 6 months in the market.

I find the 5d indispensable when i work, using it for almost all my shots at 1600asa, but i'm glad i didn't jump the gun and buy one for my personal use due to the price. (2300 - 2500$USD new within the ang mor markets now. )

My experience with 5D. A very basic FF DSLR. Good enough for me. Can live with it until it die on me.

No other user reports???

if you like shooting pictures... I guarrantee that you will like it.

I'm not sure if I'm just being picky, but is anyone else experiencing any fuzzy banding at ISO3200 ?

I reread the review on dpreview and the banding I am experiencing isn't anywhere as bad/defined as what they have in their review (and I don't use AI servo).

I didn't have the luxury of working with iso3200 previously, so I'm not sure if this problem is just an artifact of iso3200 or whether it's specific to the 5D.

Anyone in a better position to comment?

Thanks.

marc
PS - I think I can find and post an examplar shot if anyone thinks it'll help.

Update: Here are links to two versions of the same shot...

http://tigger.smu.edu.sg/stuff/banding_examplar.jpg (240KB)

http://tigger.smu.edu.sg/stuff/banding_examplar_autocolor.jpg (359KB)

...I shot in raw, used DPP to export the 16-bit TIFF to Photoshop CS, resized to 25% the original size. It's easier to see the banding after autocolor is applied (same goes for using click-white-balance on the RAW file).

Personally, I find the dust in the viewfinder a bit irritating. Had it less than 6 months when the first speck appeared. My previous 10D and 20D had no such problems (after 1year + of use). That's the only pick besides the crippling RAW files. Had to really squeeze every ounce of performance out of CS and my 2 year old PC. Plus side : Solid alloy hand grip; Wide angles and WOW image quality that makes me cover up my mouth whenever I run up the RAW images on my LCD
