Not really, depends on the camera. I remember that the 40D was available on the shelves locally within like 5 days of its global announcement for sales.

The 5DmkII was available (in limited quantities) within 2 weeks.

The 1DmkIV took over 1 month !!

The 500D was almost the next work day !

Will the video be in higher quality than mk2?

It's been said that the video will be improved and be the best video available in any DSLR. I believe that is all we know up to now. We will know for sure on Friday.

how about the pricing when buying soon after launch? prbly not much discount from RRP?

Quite obviously you can't hope for deep discounts on a hot selling item that's fresh out of the oven right ???

The 5DII was ~ MSRP $4.2k. Shop price at launch was $3.9+K Closer to $4k for their regular customers. Over the space of six months, it went down to like $3.8k for their 'regulars'. It was 'just' a miserly 10% even after 6 months as it was still a very hot selling item, just that supply was then stable and was available everywhere...

I agree. In fact, there will be far more movement in price with the Canon 5D Mk2. There are expectations that a price drop will occur next Monday to levels seen during the Christmas discounts. The price of the Canon 5D Mk3 however, will remain the same for several months.

The 500D or simialr range are not exactly Pro line..... make no sense for Canon to delay such cheap consumer range of body..... they want to push out as fast as possible..... for the Pro line.... they are tickling the balls of such user, like myself, give a bit, hold a bit, drive us crazy... and they launch it and everyone just cheong and get it forgetting the price here is so much higher than elsewhere/higher than competitors.... but by then, who cares.... the urge is already too strong for us to think straight.....:sweat:

thanks for the great info. was contemplating how long to wait after the release the product.
if only 10% less after 6mths, think quite hard to overcome the temptation of getting it early. :)

Believe me Bro..... if Canon were to lauch it today, special offer for One Day only, at S$2800... with L kit lens at $3400.... the queue will be from Sentosa to KL, maybe till Bangkok....

I wonder what the knock on price effect will be on the 1Dm4, 1Dm3s n 1Dm3. I know these are pro bodies, but an advanced AF, superior sensor, high fps burst mode n hopefully proper weather sealing will really close the gap between the 5D3/x series and these 'old' pro bodies.

It won't be anywhere near that price for the camera body. Expect pricing to be very, very similar to D800. Typically, Canon will price it just that wee little bit less than equivalent Nikon competitor.

In US Dollars ? Maybe ... but definitely won't be that amount in SG dollars.

I know Bro... thats why I say queue from Sentoa to BKK.......... but I believe it should be more ex than D800... like the 5DMKII and D700... up till now, 5DMKII still more ex than D700.....

I expect the mkIII to be more expensive than the D800, too. Canon can afford that, they are still the 1. in sales. Also, if you price something higher people think it's better. :-$
