Canon 5D mk3 in Spring

Well, then how long does it take for the big magazines and websites to publish the cam review after the cam body is released to the market? Personally, I think 5dx won't be a bad cam, like what u said: it's expensive. Besides, canon won't want to get their reputation screwed after the new ff body is up and running.

I agree, Canon would not want any issues with this highly anticipated, high profile camera. They went through a lot of bad publicity with the 1D mkIII and its AF issues. Several long time professionals were not amused. Some jumped shipped to Nikon. So Canon will probably come out with a camera similar to the Canon 60D that was introduced to the market with nary a peep. In fact, the quality of the 60D was lauded by most users.

As far as reviews are concerned, there are likely reviews ready to go right now on various web sites. The owners are waiting for the NDA's to expire. If the 5D X is introduced this week, I am confident that we will see some 'initial' 'first-hand' reviews by next week-end. But the more extensive reviews done by the more reputable names will take several weeks to a few months. DPReview for example may take 2 or 3 months for a full scale review, but they will have an initial first-hand review ready to go within a couple of weeks (much like they did with the Nikon D800 - "What the Professionals Think").

I am also waiting for the new camera body but I think that I may wait until the bugs and kinks are worked out of the first or second batch before parting with my cash.

When the 7D came out I bought the very last camera in Singapore's first batch. Many issues related to AF came out shortly after I got my camera... some of them legitimate but most due to user ignorance. Nonetheless, I brought my camera into CSC to have it checked. There was nothing wrong with it but they were kind enough to calibrate it to my lens which produced photos sharper than I had ever gotten before with any body.

The 5D X is likely going to be my main camera for the next 4 years, so I want to make sure that I get one without any potential issues (which I realize is unlikely but best to be sure).

Regarding the concern of the bugs of first few batches of the cam body, I believe canon will issue out firmware update to solve the problem? Correct me if I am wrong. Well, I think I better wait for one month or so after the release, then buy it in.

To be sure. The firmware fixes are the easy ones to fix. But let's not forget that Canon is introducing a brand new 61 point AF system. Canon has never had an AF of this sophistication before. Some AF issues cannot be fixed by firmware. There may be many other innovations or improvements that are new with this release.

In my opinion, it is better to allow the 'early adopters' time to assess the worthiness of this camera. If there are 'manufacturing defects' we'll know about them within the first two weeks. We'll also know within the first several weeks how Canon plans to respond.

Again this is all speculation, but the first two weeks should provide a pretty good indicator of whether this camera is void of defects. If so, then it is safe to buy!

Yes, there's lot's of excitement and it's well justified. The successor to the 5D MkII is almost 4 years in the making. I'm sure that the Tsunami in Japan played a factor. But we are currently on the precipice of a major, significant announcement. Once announced there will be a lot of discussion in all forums across the world (just like the Nikon D800).

Then we wait for availability....

according to canon rumours, its gonna cost around 3.5K usd ..

Yeah I hope it will not be 4k also.. Been reading up and found the specs really good and am really tempted to stay in Camp Canon instead of Camp Leica! :/

Anyway think this cam will not be cheap. Like Bro raydio said, the technology inside are all new and it is hard to see how Canon will make this a cheaper cam. Anyway just my two cents..

Just bit the bullet and bought a 5DMk2 from a guy who wants to upgrade to the Mk3 or a 1Dx. The prices of used 5D2's have fallen so fast suddenly with the excitement of the impending successor. I know my own photography skills and needs make it very hard to justify a camera that may cost $4.4K... honestly I am more worried that the next EOS 70D/7D/650D will be so good that they erase any advantage the 5DMk2 has over the APSC sensor... effectively making the 5DMk2 not worth getting for many people. Of course physics will mean that DOF will always be better on a FF sensor though. But who knows how far Canon will be able to take the next gen APSC and FF sensors...

SGD4.4k ouch.

You may have missed it, but it was posted earlier that many are speculating that the original US$3500 figure was for camera PLUS kit lens (24-105 Mk II). The body only should come in at US$2700 (or S$3,400).

no worries, you arent the only person. i too has been waiting for almost 1yr, refraining from getting the current 580ex. but now i am eyeing for some new lenses, dont think pocket deep enough for new cam, lenses & flash at the same time. thus will wait for another few more months

I actually got the 580II last year only... but I have been using it quite regularly...... and the 430EX did not have enough juice... so I have no choice..... and 430 cannot have ext battery pack.....

In view of the avalanche of the no of new lens.... I would have to reconsider my buying path........ I will be saving for 24-70 & new flash for me, as I intent to be on 7D for another 3-4 yrs....... but if they throw in a 35mm & 50mm.... I'll have a big headache............

looks like our plan for new toy are quite similar, i am considering the new 24-70, 50mm now and buy either 7D or 5Dmkii replacement by year end with flash.

Hope 5DMII price keeps falling, already saw it at 2.1k over the weekend.

Once it falls below $1800, I will be in the market again :)

Ya... quite similar path for lens, flash & body..... but most likely, 2012 will be 24-70mm & Flash... but my more detailed plan was getting filters and flash/ light modifier too...

Dropped plans for Lee filters for now and will survive with Tian Ya (since I shoot indoor mostly) and CPL, but could go for Rogue Grid & Gels, flashbender & diffuser...... US price is very cheap but shipping is expensive....

Which 50mm are you waiting for??? I am waiting for 50mm F1.4 replacement, and I like to have ring USM & Internal focus.... This will be 2013 purchase item.

35mm F1.4L II is scheduled to be release in 2013 too base on the leaked pathway from Canon Rumor.... not sure if that is true... but will wait and see..........But if the 35mm USM F2 version is good enough with good bokeh.... I could skip the L.....

I'm not sure what's there to be upgraded for 35L... It's a freaking sharp lens from wide open. Perhaps the build quality.
