Canon 5D Mk II or Canon 7D + 10-22

i came from a 40D to a 5D2.. the biggest thing i missed was the cross AF points on every sensor point. that aside, i love my 5D2 for what it gives me over the 40D

i don't need the cross AF points for all my work so i can live with it till an able replacement comes along. if you can live without them, i think you'll enjoy the FF

I compared my 7d pics at iso200 to my friend 5d mark2 at the same iso and mine is discernably more noisy. In fact, it too noisy for macro.

For IQ wise, definately the 5D2 hands down.
For AF.....well, let's just say i have a friend who owns a Nikon D300 (51 AF points) but he still only use the center AF point like I do on the 5D2......

You already have the luxury of 40D backup so what's there to decide?

Need some inputs here.

Of course i understand the differences between the 2 cameras.

Currently own a Canon 40D+grip+17-40L & EF-S 55-250
My usage are mainly shooting landscapes, architecture, plane spotting, and occasionally portraits of children. I love to have high FPS and hoping to jump into FF, but sadly 5D only gives 3.9FPS and lesser AF Points (Not really a big issue for me). But 7D gives a extra advantage for tele lens for Plane Spotting but good for shooting little kids as they always keep moving (High FPS). The 10-22 lens for getting a "Full Frame" 16mm on a 7D :embrass: If i get the 5D, there is no need for that.

Stuck in between

Consider the following:

1. What can 7D do that 40D cannot?
2. What can 7D do that 40D + 5D2 cannot or better still, reverse it, meaning, "what can the 40D + 5D2 do that the 7D cannot?".

From there you will get your answers, technically, but you should also consider which system will eventually give you wider scopes to upgrade your photography skill and genre.

My opinion....get 7D but not 10-20 EF-S. Reason for the new body is that the feature and performance is currently one of the best in canon series as well as the 19 point focusing. There is a good number of focusing features that you can play with. I suggest not to get the 10-20mm is because from your statements, I strongly believe you would also get the full frame soon; and I think only the 12-24 (I think) by Sigma is a EF mount which produces great picture (if you make sure you check and test) as some batches do have focusing issue. With an EF ount lens you will not need to consider change of lens.

Get the 5D or other FF that is to be announced soon or next year....so if money is an issue for you...you could follow the suggestion by the rest like 40D + 5D II or 7D + 5D or wait further another 6 months to see what comes next.

Have you also considered your aperture needs? The lens that you have/considering aren't exactly fast especially if you are going to do indoor shots. If you need to boost your ISO, the 5D Mk2 will certainly be better at handling the noise... or you'll need to get a faster lens. Just something for you to consider

once you on FF, you may miss a bit on the crop of the extra reach.
How come my lens can't zoom in further,if there not a space for you steps few step toward.

FF good for portrait and landscape.
The depth of field are difference.
FF cam good to pair with L :devil:
