Canon 550D

yup.. and 3.7fps 6 raw frames (1.5 secs of continuous shooting?) compared to 8fps 15 raw frames(7D).

I know some one who just bought 500D just few days ago!

not as bad as my friend who paid 4000+ for his canon D60,
less than 3days later, out come 10D,
faster, quicker n better cam at 3500+ :bsmilie:

hmmm this body is interesting but we must wait for the review on the AF speed/accuracy and quality the photo produce.

i think i will not change to this body but upgrade better series :)

IIRC, but don't quote me on this - just basing off memory, but doesn't the 7D sport a dual DIGIC-4 sensor, and the 550D basically has a single DIGIC4?

Yes your are right. Even xxD series have single sensor. Only the xD series have dual sensors IIRC.

For existing 500D users i think there isn't that much improvement to rush out and get the latest upgrade. I am very happy with my 500D. An upgrade would more likely be xxD or xD series.

Having seen the comments and all, its a step in the right direction. Canon's next xxD or 7DII will need to outperform 550D significantly, the people upgrading from 500D(to XXD or 7DII) will benefit a great deal.

Waaa, now a new model every year?

BnS and 2nd hand pricing for XXXD range is definitely going to take a hit big time with this move.

Sell quick!!

Dual SENSORS??!!

So what do you do? mount 2 lenses at once? That will be power la!

Digic4 are image processors la. :bsmilie:

agree...for the price tag, dont think it's worth for 500D user to upgrade as well.

"The EOS 550D, EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens kit is available from 24th February 2010 priced at £899.99.00 / €999.00 RRP inc. VAT."

It's close to 2k SGD. Currently 500D kit 1 is only selling at around 1.3k? 700 bucks more ex for that amount of upgrade..:dunno:

am waiting to improve my skill before upgrade to the next either XXD (if they still continue) or XD series...

Cannot look at the SRP in euros/pounds. Always looks a little overpriced imo.

Anyway, good thing Canon came up with this crap. At least I have nothing tempting me to upgrade :P

Canon sells more entry level DSLR than prosumer or pro level cameras. This translates to more profit and probably more money for R&D, better paid staff and all that. Thus, it makes sense for Canon to sell the next hot entry level DSLR. I am sure its the same thing for Apple selling more iPhones than Macs.

The new manual control features of the 550D is very exciting and should allow folks who have discovered DSLR video more latitude in controlling their video shoots. I for one am sold on DSLR videos. Edit: also notice the mic input and 60fps at 720p which means you can halve the speed to 30fps and get some interesting slowing down of motion. And the Movie Crop option... interesting....

It will be exiciting to see what the 60D / 5D3 / 7D2 will incorporate since it will definitely be better than the 550D. :)

the new product means the more expensive .. so do you really need it .. ??

I m impressed with video feature .. price range shld be $1.3-1.5k with kit .. but really doubt ISO performance with 18MP

Cool ! a new rebel series came already ! faster , new metering system and more mega pixel ...

But it still used the same DIGIC IV processor , hmm ...

I think the canon engineers have a tremendous job to overclock the processor inside . May be there is a fan / cooler inside the DSLR body ? :dunno:

Erm.. overclocking a processor wouldn't give you more megapixels.....

Actually, I'm inclined to think that new products means same or lower price but more features... look at PCs / laptops... these used to cost you $2K to $3K but you can get faster PCs / laptops at lower prices today. Even Apple computers costs a lot less than they used to be.

I think since DSLR uses computer chips, they will continue to get cheaper with more features. Moore's law all over again....

At least Canon didn't pull an "iPad" joke with the 550D!

Anyway, I'm a 500D user. A bit envious of the extra and better video options. +/-5EV doesn't tempt me much since I find myself shooting M mode more and more.

If anything, I'm wanting faster fps for my sports shoots so it's either the 60D (or, more likely, the 7D in the future).

Grats to those getting the 550D - really, don't underestimate the video option. It's pretty fun and can be better in certain situations than still-shots

there are small minor limitations on my 500D that i was unaware previously until my own experience with the camera
and personally i think those limitations are there on purpose to differentiate between XXD series and the XXXD series

Can you share what these limitations are that you found?

oh i want :)
a cheap little filmmaking beast! i want :) :)

I find this 550D will be a very very sweet VSLR to allow more leeway for better bokeh lenses. :D

Yummy, really yummy if I could get 1 to pair with my Tokina 50-135mm F2.8 for Video with thin DOF~!

i agree this new cam pack with good video power, but as a photography, i think no point upgrade to this cam as it does not really have much improvement in the field unless this cam prove to have much better AF and photo quality!

my 450D going to be obsolete
