Upgrade interval really short...

By the way, Canon UK webby did state availability on 24th Feb 2010..

I think it's for good measure. Canon appears to be competing head on with Nikon this time around, vis-a-vis at the market level. I mean 7D competes directly with D300s, and now the 550D appears to be after D5000's.

I expect 60D to be going after D90's neck, and the CR1 rumored 5D Mk3 will go after D900 (or D700s, whatever it ends up as).

Now, let's wait and see what Nikon has in store for the Nikon crowd.

:Later,

Upgrade interval really short...

the faster you release them, the more BBB happens

people see

WA! 18 MEGAPIXELS!!!!

WA!!!!!

please, if there was a 8 megapixel camera with supreme dynamic range (fujifilm style) and lower noise, it'd be far more useful than something that just gets pixie-dusted a bit and touted as an "all new camera"

Hi,
The +/- 5.0 EV exposure compensation is quite interesting.

Have a nice day.

But no marketing monkey is able to transfer this into a catchy nonsense phrase :)

:) it ain't about the camera u know, its about having the eyes to shoot a good photo. So, stick with the 500D. ;)
yea i know
and i am telling myself that

I know some one who just bought 500D just few days ago!
i bet he's scolding himself now
lol..... its not about camera in this sense
but more of depreciation
who won't be pissed if the stuff they bought suddenly suffers a sudden depreciation overnight !!

i know wad a rebel can do. i even wanted to buy one...but at same settings, same lens, same everything...the 50D produced an image more accurately and pleasing than a 500D so thats why i went for the 50. well this is my opinions bro, no offense. i respect and admire the rebel series for wad they can do, but my point is they can never be a 7D.
though I've never own any other camera series other than 500D
i have to agree with you on that
there are small minor limitations on my 500D that i was unaware previously until my own experience with the camera
and personally i think those limitations are there on purpose to differentiate between XXD series and the XXXD series

the rebel series is gimmick loaded for the consumers wad.............

actually
it is stated as a flaw for 500D to have only +/- 2 EV
i think canon made it +/- 5 EV for the 550D to fix the flaw
which should have been on the 500D to begin with

well hope they release a firmware for the 500D and tweaks it

the rebel series is gimmick loaded for the consumers wad.............
well
i was totally a newbie to photography then
so that makes me a typical consumer i suppose

i can't say i'm not a consumer anymore
but as compared to when i first started out
I've definitely improved

yeah they are there on purpose but by no means make the rebel a lousy camera. I LOVE THE SIZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if i were a billionaire i wld ask canon to custom make a rebel with magnesium alloy and weather sealed body and stuff it with 7D features + FF capabilities. woohooo! dreams....its late at nite, sorry.

50D seem to have +/- 2 EV also...i dun use this feature cuz im always on M mode. this is for Tv and Av modes right?

lol ;p
i would too if i am filthy rich
who wouldn't want a highly personalized equipment if money is a non-issue??
i would even go as far as asking canon to make a lens just for me in that case
f2.8 18~200 IS with L quality IQ
in that why i won't have to change lens that often

well keep dreaming :sweatsm:

It’s not the camera, while good bodies afford MORE opportunities, we should master what we have then move on to bigger things. Just go see some of the pictures in the 1000D thread. Even with the ‘lowest’ canon DSLR they are taking good pictures.

Note to self. Stop looking at 550D and 7D.

yes it is for the Av and Tv modes
if u go and adjust the EV compensation thing on Manual mode
you'll get exposure bracketing instead of compensation

i was comparing this to my Sister's Nikon D300
(manual for her camera allows EV compensation, but i get the logic behind why Canon didn't do the same. manual mode allow users to have full control over settings like the aperture , shutter speed, ISO etc etc, what the EV compensation does is that it changes those variables to get that exposure
e.g.
Av mode let say the balanced exposure for an environment is at
1/200, F5.6, ISO 800
but since you're in Av mode, you're telling the camera that you want the aperture to be specifically F5.6, that's when the exposure compensation comes in handy. the camera will go and change the other variables to achieve the desired exposure you indicated.
so if you set the compensation to be -1
the camera will either move 1/200 1 stop faster, or the iso 1 stop lower (but not both) and keep aperture at f5.6

and since in manual mode users want full control, why should there be compensation feature ??)

and that was when i found out the difference

any idea when this 550D will be arriving to sg?

New battery - LP-E8 - for 550D.

Has a chip inside to read battery info just like the LP-E6. ;)

I have the 500D and don't find the video mode that usable as compared to a dedicated AVCHD camcorder -- the 500D's AF during Live View is painfully slow and doesn't offer continuous AF.

Then again, if the 500D can do it all, Canon might as well shut down its camcorder line. :)

ofcos..a camcorder is design for it main function..it can capture photo too..but the quality will not be as good as a DSLR..jus like a DSLR have a video function and it is not as good as a camcorder..as the holding/ grip style is totally diff..

However, as mention, 550D is 18mp but from canon source, there still slight diff btw 7D sensor and 550D sensor..thus, i believe, 7D will still out perform 550D some how..cos u have to pay for wat u get at the end of the day..

Arh... where is the 60D...
Anyway, even it just launch, when it reach Sg, at least after 2 month...

And... there is full manual control for video and optional stereo mic to add on... sigh.

IIRC, but don't quote me on this - just basing off memory, but doesn't the 7D sport a dual DIGIC-4 sensor, and the 550D basically has a single DIGIC4?
