Canon 550D Body + Canon EF 50mm f/1.4

haha.. icic.. shldn't be an issue for me though.. i dun mind moving front and back as long as it can be done.. =)

weight never really cross my mind yet as an issue yet.. maybe cos i haven't really handle a SLR before.. hmm.. but as long as it is lighter than a M16, shld be ok alright ba..

Hi imho, you gotta understand that even though the lens might not be heavy to you, but the smallest of shakes will cause a difference in the outcome of your images (if you are going to use the lens for low light shooting of course)

Furthermore, you mentioned you wanted low noise. low noise = low iso = slower shutter speed = higher risk of blurring

Anyway, the tamron 17-50 non-vc is a great walkabout lens, should you consider a zoom for its flexibility. I haven't tried the sigmalux, but the ef 50 1.4 is light and its AF speed and accuracy is much better than the f1.8.

Sometimes you might not have the option of moving forward or back even if you wanted to(eg a wide drain infront or a wall behind)

if you have been walking and shooting for hours carrying heavy bags and equipment then you will realize that less is best.

Both situations are my personal experience

To take 3 people, standing across a wedding table of 2m will give you roughly 3 head and shoulders shot, plus they have to squeeze. To get half body, have to stand about 3.5m away, and not much bokeh left at 3.5m focus distance.

Sigma 30mm F/1.4 is probably closer to a full-frame 50mm. Do give it a try.. it's a very good lens.

50mm would be too tight indoors. Generally too tight unless u go for half body portraits with tight composition about 3-4 metres away from subject. For general purpose, I would recommend Tamron 17-55 F/2.8. If you prefer prime, go for a 30mm or wider lens.

prime lens is good! but all depends on what you shoot

i heard that 50 1.4 prone to problems though

ya.. i will cfm buy the Tamron 17-50mm too.. but currently only have budget for one lense.. but i dun tink the F2.8 is useful in a wedding where the lights are dim..

today i tested a Canon 35mm f2 and 50mm f1.4 on a 1.6x crop factor body.. really must stand back quite far back lo.. at least 3metres and above i tink..

Yes and since 3m is very close to the minimum focus distance, there is not much soft bokeh left, esp on crop factor body.
