Canon 50D user out there?

It is a deal breaker for some and not a deal breaker for many. Looking at comparison of noise vis-a-vis the 40D, sure it might be less of a performer in this regard. Honestly, hard pressed to tell the difference looking at a photo in general. Of course if you scrutinize, tt's a diff story altogether.

On several other fronts, the 50D is better than the 40D. However, in my humble opinion, not a value-for-money upgrade if you had the 40D. But you know what? some people just want the latest and greatest.

The 40D vs. 50D debate has always centered on High ISO performance. We all also know that what makes a good camera is more than just ISO performance. Different people weigh different aspects of a camera differently.

Probably the model after 50D would correct this High ISO issue and then all Canon users would have less to complain about and we all will be much happier with large holes in our pockets.

(NB: I hope my post will not start another 40D vs. 50D debate again. It's getting old and pointless; and we've all heard it before.)

Noted with thanks, faineant. :)

Another proud owner of a 50D.
Don't know what firmware i'm using but having not a single problem. Wasted my money getting the 18-200 kit lens though. Just sold it, now saving for a 70-200 f2.8L IS. $$$

Noise aside, can the 50D render the details that is expected of a 15MP DSLR? ;p

Hi Guys, Juz bought a 50D wif 17-85, new to photography and its my 1st SLR camera. Do 50D hav owners group. wish to tag along if der is any outing.

I managed to buy a 50D in London when i was on holiday for just S$1.6k Body only. A really nice upgrade from my 400D. Love it so much :D

Hi Guys. But is it a worthy upgrade from 40D to 50D? Will images be better on 50D than 40D on 18-55 IS kit lens? Cos reviews said that 50D required very good lens to perform.
So assuming I'm on kit lens, images taken on 40D vs 50D... which is better? Will colour contrast be nicer on 50D?

if you're holding on to a 40D with 18-55 kit lense, then hang on to your 40D. even if you have the cash to spare, i'd rather you get a better lense than spend the extra $400-$500 upgrading. then again if you feel that the VGA screen and micro AF adjustment is essential a good/nice to have, and if you are really willing to spend the money, then go ahead. your choice ;)

True. I shall save $$ on 28-70L : )

I have a very funny encounter.

Last week when I was shooting with my newly bought Tokina FishEye in Fullerton Hotel using my 50D, somebody (a tourist) asked my "what are you clicking?". After seeing me reviewing my pic from the camera display then he answered for himself "Oh, you were taking picture, right".

Haha, I really like this camera shutter clicking sound.

Dear all expert bros here,

I just bought a 50D today. Got a EF 28-105 lens. Recommended by the shop uncle but to be honest, I know nuts about DSLR as this is my first buy.

Thought of signing up basic classes to learn.

Any good advices from bros here?

Thanks :)

hi there. in all honesty you should have at least read up first before making your purchase. i'm assuming you had spent at least almost 3k on this purchase, and it was quite a risk just jumping in like that.

nonetheless, you have already got your stuff so good for you. sign up for the canon complimentary training class, and read up both from this forums and other online sites. the next best thing would be to just take your camera out to shoot. nothing beats that.

Welcome on board... :)

Try this URL:

search "dslr tutorial" in google, there are a lot of info for beginner.

Have fun, and dun forget to share your pics :D

Hi there,

Thanks for the advice. I spent $2.4K in total. Been playing with it a few days already. Like the photo quality, still unsure of the setting though. :dunno:

Hi all, I'm also new to DSLR and also got myself a 50D.

*wave* Look forward to your guidance...

Just borrowed and read the book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson from the Library. Recommended by zoossh (under the Newbie Guide). Very good book, give you an idea of what photography is about. Highly recommended.

Yup. The National Library is a very good source on photography books.
