Canon 50D user out there?

a very happy 50D user here as well . . . 6k shots already! :sweat: . . . no problem whatsoever, even before i upgraded to 1.0.3 (1.0.1 before) . . . love the 10x magnification in live view, really handy when doing manual focus . . . using the same lenses, the colour contrast and sharpness are really much better as compared to the photos i took with my old 400D . . . i'm glad i upgraded

I am a new 50D user! Great functionalities, being an upgrade from 300D for me, and really, the 3" LCD is a plus especially when inspecting the image at closed-up range. Live-view's great, a little chore when using AF with liveview, but nonetheless, top-notch quality which is inevitably the appeal.

Plus, it came with a bunch of freebies, 20GB worth of CF cards, tripod, bag, screen protector. But hey, that's if you're happy like me with the freebies.

May I know how much did you pay for the 50D body?

a great upgrade coming from the rebels. still with FW 1.01 though since no problem (its seems 1.03 doesn't provide any advantage too...unless proven)

But I have some problems... I cant seem to expand my ISO to 6400 and 12800 even after turning the function on. JIALAT!!! Is it me, my cam, or anyone out there oso facing the same problem?

Advantage in upgrading lies in knowing that Err99 will not come up when you need that shot

I am not a 50D user but i think you need to enable it. Maybe someone can advice.

ISO 6400 and 12800 is displayed as H1 and H2 on the top panel; are you able to get that?

1) Is there a 40D written on your lcd display screen? in white words and the bottom of the lcd screen. i bought mine second hand.. wondering why it says 40D on the display screen. anyone can clarfiy??

2) Do you find that 50D naturally has a blue tinge/cool to the default settings? i've played around with the WB, exp and colour settings... but still find that it has cool colours...

I dun have this 40D written leh...and 40D LCD is only 2.5" vs 50D LCD which is 3"
Er, yup i notice most picture are bias towards cool blue, but i like it man, and it doesnt bother me heehee:think:

i wodner why my lcd has 40D written on it... it's obviously a 50D... shall go n measure my screen later

Oh i checked with Canon website 40D and 50D are 3" LCD. Pardon me..guess is the same. They maybe using the same LCD for 40 and 50series, but forgot to remove the label

Hey guys, did you read the manual?
High ISO expansion (ISO 6400 and 12800) can be enabled in the Menu. I would not use these range at all unless in dire situation.
both 40D and 50D are diff although they have the same 3 inch LCD (QVGA vs VGA). So 50D has 4x the resolution that 40D has technically.
plus the blue tinge on 50D is a layer of protective anti reflection and anti scratch/ smudge layer.

FW 1.0.1 got flaw, if u ve highlight priorty turn ON, pictures will tend to be overexposed. FW1.0.3 correct this problem. u can read about of the upgrade details at the FW1.0.3 it tells what problem 1.0.3 rectifies.

I have tried with and without HLT Priority, diff not too much and its slower to process when picture is taken.
Anyone who have great success with Highlight Tone Priority?

yup. i read the manual. and i've enabled the expansion.
but it doesnt show up. i press the iso button and scroll till the end. what i get is 3200.

That's weird. What you can try is to reset all the settings, then enable ISO expansion again to see if it works. If it doesn't, might be time to visit the CSC for help. You are using the latest firmware right?
