i am looking at getting the Canon 500D achromatic close up lens for a canon 100mm 2.8 usm lens(not the hybrid) and would like to know from someone who has one what the lenght of the diopter is from the start of the thread to the front rim of the diopter, i have an ikelite housing and canon 40d and am looking at getting a standard macro port(not modular)but need to find the lenght of the lens and diopter so i can pick the right port for the job as ikelite said i can get a slightly longer port for the setup and it will not affect PQ when diopter is not attached any help would be appreciated

i believe that the recommended port (standard) for the 100mm lens is the longest one available for ikelite. So you can bring everything down to a camera shop to test the length and fit before buying?

i have the 100mm and the ikelite port with a 40D, and it is a very snug fit. there is no way you can add a filter on the front of the lens. my 100mm is right up to the port, such that you can see marks on the port from the lens, and i do not have a UV filter or anything on the front of the lens.

you might want to consider getting wet lenses, or try the modular system. with the standard port, i don't see how it could fit.

ikelite has told me that i can use a standard port longer then the one used for the 100mm without it affecting picture quality i need to know how long the diopter is so i can get the right one, the next size up is 1cm longer then the next is 2.5cm longer

Have you seen my reply to your same question on the Canon sub forum... However I'm not sure how much difference is there between the different thread sizes, I'm guessing it's minimal.

One major draw back using close-up lens is losing infinity focusing ability, that's why it's better to mount the close up lens to the port using dapater (wet lens method). So if not neneded this close up lens can be removed under water and goes to BCD pocket.
I am still trying to make DIY adapter for my RDX-standard port so I can use my 60 mm macro with Inon 67 mm close up lens in wet method.

i have found out that the canon 500d diopter makes the 100mm macro 12mm longer when screwed in, the next size up in lenght in the standard auto only port is 10mm now i need to know if there is anyone out there that has the canon 100mm standard auto only port and how much space there is between the 100mm macro and the front of the port lens any help would be most appreiated

i have the standard 100mm port, and there is no space (zero point zero mm) between the lens and lens port.
