I think whatever camera one chooses, it's always a matter of preference that suits your needs.

I really don't understand why some posters can get all fired up and defend one camera over the other like it's some universal truth.

Even if one feels that looks and weight matter all over other factors, so be it. I think that's a valid reason on a personal level.

I've so far been using the 40D and didn't bother to do a one-for-one comparison with the 450D until recently when I used it. I must say it's one nifty nice little cam with lots of similar features found in the 40D. In fact, whatever I usually do on the 40D, I can do it on the 450D! There's nothing lacking for my purpose.

But for my shooting, I think a 40D suits better cos of its built and also the controls available. If I'm on a budget, I'd definitely go for the 450D.

For newbies, as usual, be careful with whatever you read in CS. I really don't know how some can assert there are color cast issues for one cam compared with the other. I seriously think this is unfounded. And someone said the colours of the 40D are not as "contrasty" or "bright". :bsmilie: I'm puzzled.

Whichever cam you choose, you won't go wrong. What matters then is your personal needs and budget. In fact, when the cheaper 1000D is out, I'd say consider it! It has many functions that you can probably find in the 450D and 40D and heck, even on the higher end models.

Wah. So defensive. In that case, the 450D is a great camera, buy buy, i bought it afterall!! For those still undecided, and might want to see the IQ, check out the following links.

The person who cannot dance should not blame the unevenness of the floor. :nono:

got a 450D too as my 1st DSLR. bought the kit and a 50/1.8 prime lens. yummy!

Hi guys,

Does Cathay Photo Shop offer a good price for 450D?
Intending to purchase one, but what is the major difference between this and 400D?
apart from MP difference etc.

hee, I am on 450D was on 50mm f1.8 but thanks to butter fingers.. so now, happily on 35mm f2! Love it lots. The only problem is whenever i try to put it vertical, my shots always become either / or \

It was partly due to the small size and light weight that i got this ;)

Happily shooting away until I got home and realised that I've been using ISO 800!
450D at ISO 800 is just too noisy! Wasted!

Would be fine if that was from the 5D.

Actually, ISO 800 on the 450D is rather amazing... for an APS-C camera. Viewing the image as a whole, the read noise and quantum efficiency of the 450D sensor at high ISO is even better than the 40D. Of course, just don't look at its low ISO performance. :bsmilie:

I don't understand something... the ISO setting is IN your VIEWFINDER. How can you possibly miss that for non-action shots like the ones you posted?

Very beautiful shots :o and I don't see any noise at this scale, so I think you don't need to worry about the noise unless you want print on very, very large print.

Anyway, I find the noise from Canon 450D @ ISO 800 is not that bad.

Have a nice day.

You can try turning on the Noise Reduction at high ISO setting in the Function buttons.
But the pics is not noisy for me. even at ISO 1600. no worry to go high ISO on 450D.

What noise? I think these look nice! Hmm.. quite impressive at ISO 800, I am surprised it came out this good.

Hi,

Has anyone try the 450D with sigma len 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro? How this len pair with the 450D? Any comments, thinking of getting this as it is f/2.8?

Does this len have IS?

First off, singular = lens, plural = lenses.

Ok, this lens is of a pretty good range with your 450D, with a bit more reach than your kit lens (I'm assuming you did get a kit lens).

However, it is not f/2.8 across its entire zoom range. Towards the longer end of the zoom range, your maximum aperture will reduce gradually to f/4.5 at 70mm.

If you are looking at constant f/2.8 lenses, consider the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8.

All of these lenses do not have IS.

How to turnon noise reduction which helps to remove chroma noise ?
special setting? sorry if its a dumb question.

Do you find yourself needing one?

If you do, get it. If not, then don't.

As with (most) gear acquisitions, it's (mostly) about meeting needs.

Its better to get one. I gotten 4 xtra. More is always better.
