Canon 3rd party battery Grip

I bought the 3rd party battery grip for 550D, The quality is like a Canon product without the Canon price. There's even a little compartment that allows you to slide the battery cover securely in that you have to remove to use this product. This way you never have to worry about where you put it. The 2-battery case holder slides out the side from within so that you don't have to dismount the whole
thing from the tripod or the camera just to replace the batteries. Great design! It does not feel like cheap plastic. It's a sturdy & firm molding. Will handle bumps or dings without any problem of cracking (in my opinion). Again, not cheap plastic. Has a strong tighting screw too.

Hows the switch? I bought a 3rd party for 550D and switch broke (use it only for a month). The store agreed to replace for another new unit and again the switch broke, so in the end i settle for the orig.

hi, i am a new user, but i am using a phottix BG. i head its a gd brand that why i bought it off the net for my new DSLR. i bought it at ebay, and it took just 1 week to ship over. red dot is selling phottix at 120+ i tink, but i got the BG with 2 third party batt at 80 SGD! haha.. cheap xia... its working totally fine with my camera and there is no communication issue between the battery and the camera.

the built wise, well, definitely there is a shortfall on the grip part, as in its eh, not exactly the same as the canon one, but its good. it also communicate very well with the cam, as in the wheel, the portrait shutter button and the zoom buttons works perfectly fine.

for me, i bought the BG primarily to counter the small grip of the 1000D. but the added weight makes the entire cam feels more solid and when i mount my sigma 18-200mm, although heavier on the whole, but it balance the lens weight well.

My 2 cents. =)

I am thinking of buying the original battery grip BG-E5 secondhand (around $150), but seems like no one is selling! i have been monitoring the buy/sell for 1 month!
thinking if i should just buy the Phottix BG-E5 seems its about the same price (Around $130)!! i am scared of the problems like not working well, got problem, connectivity issue~ anyway i got 2 original canon battery to go with the grip!!

should i keep waiting or buy the 3rd party?

my Phottix BG is working fine! but well, then again, there is the 'luck' factor when buying third party i heard. well, at least thats what i gathered while reading the forums. However, Phottix is pretty reliable...and IF u do consider, ebay sells it cheaper with 2 batts also if i m not wrong... u can check it out and compare the price difference..

i came across this 3rd party grip from Chromage http://www.reddotphoto.com.sg/ecommerce/viewproducts.php?pid=613&catid=11.1

enquired with Red Dot Photo, they say Chromage is a local brand n the grip shld arrive next week. they are having pre-order now and you can get a free Chromage batt with it. have placed an order with them, will update when i get it, hopefully it's indeed cheap n good!

No difference really. All the 3rd party battery grips are actually manufactured at the same factory, then each company just stick their stickers with their company name on it. Which is why my 3rd party grip from China felt and looked exactly the same as a Chromage one.

yup all 3rd party looked alike just with diff brand pasted on .most important to have the warranty and reputable shop to honor it.:)

pm me also the price thanks!

Also, how long have you been using it? Is there any further issues?

update so far the BG is working good after 1 year usage (ard 20times) no peeling and battery still able to communicate. however the battery life compare with original depleted 30% away.
