Canon 35mm f1.4 or sigma 30mm f1.4

Just brought a sigma 30. Using it on my 7D and I can say its sharp @ f1.4. Good value for a great lens.

sigma 30 is an awesome lens on the 7d. it was my first lens out of many.

sold the 17-55 f2.8 and kept it. awesome lens for capturing moments. weddings, kids, candids.

haven't tried to 35 f1.4 tho. highly rated lens. couldn't go wrong with that i suppose. a PRIME L lens. yummy.

owned a Sigma 30/1.4 when i was using crop, and then now when i'm on FF, i've went with the 35L.

the reason why these lenses isn't compared head to head is because sigma's offering is more like a 50mm on FF, and people using 35L would use it on a FF.

but nevertheless, the sigma was razor sharp. however, they exhibit a little yellowish warm color cast. sort of a sigma tradition to have such a cast. where else the 35L has the signature canon punchy colors.

I'm thinking on buying the 35mm L for my 7D, generally for a walk-around lens and food photography
and am not considering a sigma (due to past events that has led to some bad memories with sigma lens)
But I can't help but wonder because I've read in some post that the 35mm doesn't deliver the same "wow" effect on a crop body
is that true?
any suggestions tho?

what do you mean by "WOW".

Not really sure, because it's people's opinion, I haven't really tested the 35mm 1.4 L, tested the focal on my friends nikon 35 1.8 and loved it
Maybe the punch of colors and such? hahah

Given another go at this, I'd probably have saved some more money and gotten the Canon 35mm f1.4L. The Sigma 30mm f1.4 is a very nice lens. I got lucky and got a good copy so focus was right on. However, the biggest minus for me is that it's APSC only.

Wow.. this old thread is revived..

Anw I'm one of those who skipped the kit lens (or those 16/17-50/55 f2.8) and went straight to the 30mm f1.4.. No regret so far. Now considering getting the 85mm f1.4 also LOL ;p

Sigma 85 1.4? Some say it's comparable to the 85 1.2L haha :D
Still not convinced to use 3rd party lenses tho :( Hahaha

From what I read online, to be fair, against the 85 1.2L it is:
- The Sigma, at f1.4, is slightly darker against 85 1.2L at f1.4.
- Sigma focuses faster
- Sigma has different color rendering.

Against the 85 f1.8:
- The general opinion is, it is not worthy to get the 85mm f1.4 if you already have, for example, Canon 85mm f1.8
- But if you really need the f1.4 / have unlimited cash etc / don't currently own any 85mm.. then by all means... =)
