I believe thats quite true. Obviously 10D is more expensive 300D as "most of the time"(not always) the more expensive cams offers extra functions, features or quality wise etc.
I've got a 300D and I'm quite happy with it as it caters to my needs. I wouldn't mind a 10D though.

Buying DSLR is jus like buying a car .... there are factors to consider such as:
features and functionality;
resale value;
compatibility and ease of use;
entry level: diehard hobbyists or upgrader from prosumer.

Unless u r a true fans of Canon's products ... y dun u consider Nikon D70!!!
Though I love my 300D but IMO .. D70 beat 300D handdown!!!
But getting a D70 will mean getting new set of lens and accessories!!!

He did mentioned that his friend already has an EOS 30 with a few lenses.

Yeah. My fren already got a couple of canon lenses already. Just checked out the D70. It does look deliciously good. Should I tempt my friend? :devil:

IMHO, if budget is not a concern, get the 10D. I own a 300D, sometimes I really love to have the FEC control. Yes, we can hack the FEC by 3rd party software like 10DRemote, but everytime I reset the camera, the hacked FEC value will be reset to 0, very inconvenience if going for travel.

If budget is tight, go for 300D. :) Because with 10D, your friend might need to spend another $1300+/- for the 17-40L, in order to get the wide angle 28mm after 1.6x.

Either one will good for your friend to start "Digital", as he already familiar with the EOS30.

Happy purchasing and shooting! :)
