Canon 24-105 L +Sigma 35mm F1.4 OR Canon 24-70 L Mll?

If you insist on using prime for food, then you should consider 50mm. Personally, i find 85mm tight on FF at times for food so let alone 100mm.

Yup, I'm currently using 50mm to take food. Will a 35mm be better in that sense? Not so tight

There is many other factor to consider apart from focal length when you are shooting. Since you are on FF, 50mm should work fine unless you are trying to shoot the entire dining table.

I doesn't use 35mm for food as I find it too wide for my liking and to avoid unnecessary cropping. YMMV though.

I'm in similar situation, looking for an upgrade from my trusty efs 15-85mm since I have a Canon 6D now :P Trying to decide between the Canon 24-105 or the upcoming Sigma 24-105mm. Sigma 35mm f1.4 is also on my list, but prefer the 50mm focal length so prob getting the Sig 50mm 1.4. The 24-70 f2.8 has been deleted from my wish list due to its price and short focal length equivalent to only 44mm on APSC sensor! The weight for me to use 24-105mm and 50 1.4 is heavier than using one 24-70mm but i think it will be much more versatile being able to shoot food/bokehlicious pics with 50mm and 24-105 for everything that may come my way - ohh, my main usage (75%) is for holiday. Don't really shoot any other time. All depends on your usage requirement bro, think about how u going to use your equipment first before deciding on lens : ) I also have a 85mm 1.8 for portraits shoot which I do 25% of my other time.

Finally someone with the same situation! Haha and I'm deciding between 50mm f1.4 or 35mm for food. I'm using 50mm f1.8 now to take food. I wanna try 35mm for food but scared too wide

Go rent a 35mm and do your own comparison test. Don't buy by listening to hearsay and regret later on.

you may wish to consider getting a eg 28-105 f3.5-4.5 USM, especially the Mk 1 version.

fast quiet AF, nearly L in terms of build quality and Optic performance. it's also faster than 24-105 f4 in terms of aperture, over the wider focal lengths.

coincidentally I am selling one such lens, at only $330. canon stopped building these because they were eating up the L market

I know, will rent when i get enough money to get it.

So for now, I should get a 24-105 or 17-40 for walkabout?

Yup, I'm trying to use 50mm for food now, will compare and see if it fits me. Thanks for the advice

Both the lens you listed definitely serve well as a walkabout. If you like to shoot close up alot, then better off get 24-105 for more versatility.

Hi, I'm using Canon 6D now and using a 50mm F1.8. Which combo of lens should I get? Slushing for walkabout and mostly food photography.

Please help

I think 24-105 + 50 f1.8 is good enough, just buy 17-40 instead of 35 f1.4 for wide angle lens so they can cover everything you need

will getting both 17-40 and 24-105 be quite an overkill? haha

i like 24-105 because it's quite an all rounder. but the 17-40 can take wide angle landscape. decisions,decisions...

24-105 gets my vote if you have a limiting budget from what your usage seems to be, definitely a much more versatile lens. Believe like what some may have mentioned, could always stitch up in photoshop which isn't a very tough process once you understand the method.

You can always do panorama and 24mm is more than sufficient for that.

thats what i thought. At least 24-105 gives me zoom or wide angle.

Btw, you got the dream setup that I want! haha

Thanks bro but slowly moving to prime setup now and completely understand your situation as I'm serving NS as well ;)
