Canon 1D Mark IV

I thought I saw somewhere that the specs will be either 16MP or 18MP. Maintaining 10-12fps, video, precision focus (as in 7D), still 1.3 crop, much faster AF than 7D of course, may incorporate the AF selection of 7D or more. Better noise control which means cleaner picture at ISO 6400 (better than 5DM2 or even). With all this I am hoping the price range would be around SG$5,500 in recognition that prices for cameras are going down with better features :thumbsup: :think: With that I think it's worth buying already :)

5.5k is really reaching, but I guess we can all wish for such a drop in price.

i think 6k will be a good pricing. just price it below the d3s.

If it costs as much as the 1Ds Mk3, I can forget it (again)! :cry:

im sure it wont be since most likely it will stay as a 1.3 crop sensor. likely to be same as the 1d3 in pricing.

But they might go FF with low(relatively) MP count to counter the D3s.
All I know is that if Canon doesn't do something about their 1D series, it's game over for Canon's market share for pro PJ/Sports/Wildlife cameras.

i highly doubt that will happen and i don't really agree with the statement of game over for their mkt share. there's alot going for the 1.3 crop as opposed to going FF for those users.

Agreed. Canon will NEVER give up their market share as far as sports, PJ, wildlife are concerned..:thumbsup:

That's quite a sweeping statement. Sensor size alone does not win the game for PJ/Sports/etc.

Remember that there are the 1D and 1Ds series. Add the fact that Canon 7D is another formidable camera from Canon's line.

Mk four is due very soon..... yeah!

Makes sense.

Legions of pros still rely on their 1D2s and 2Ns day in day out to make a living.

Also, not every professional needs or wants FF. In many situations, a FF sensor can be a disadvantage (especially when it's not needed). Aside, the IQ from a Digic2 1.3 crop sensor can be quite spectacular if the tog knows how to eek the best performance from the camera, and work within limitations.

if the pro needs the fullframe, he would not bother getting a 1.3 crop sensor. its not like canon doesnt have full frame cameras. i have no idea why ppl keep hoping the 1 series becomes a full frame like the d3. :dunno:

I guess because there are people who want a full frame 1DS with fast fps like 9-11 instead of just 5fps on the 1Ds3

if work requires it, then getting the d3 or d3s will be the best solution? but right now, havent see a reason good enough to drop the canon for the nikon yet. :dunno:

but i think the target mkt of the 1D series don't require uwa angle of a full frame sensor and it is more of the high iso performance they are more concerned with. and that will mean compromising btw getting good iso performance vs extending a telephoto fov? if the aps-h crop is as useless as everyone says, the d3s wouldnt have it as the new crop mode already.

Because many feel that FFs are the 'Holy Grail' in general? The result of being obsessed with resolution, high ISO and low or no-noise? :think:

There are many other factors that comes into play when choosing a particular sensor (-based system) just as there are pros who seem to prefer non-Ls over Ls and it's not just about costs. To a working pro, equipment is a (depreciating) investment that must always deliver what's required - consistently.

Someone's been testing the Canon 1D Mark IV already.

Here are the Canon 1D Mark IV specs:
* 1.3 crop
* Images ~16MP
* ISO 50-26500
* 8MP sRAW1 format providing images that seem to best 1D3 files in detail [typo corrected]
* Very clean images at ISO 3200. 6400/12800 take further processing very well
* Slightly faster FPS than 1D3 in real life shooting
* AF greatly improved and very good in low light (actual comment was ‘Nikon fast’ ;-)
* Liveview AF – not up to fast sports use, but very usable otherwise
* Video as with 5D2
* Screen as per 5D2
* Ergonomic improvements with grips – some buttons moved
* Feels faster and more responsive in nearly all aspects of real use.

Good it does not itch me to upgrade then.

I couldn't make out the specs... who did they build this camera for? Photojournalists?

If this is the answer to D3s, I don't know what to say...

Yes, photojournalists.

No, it's the answer to the 1DIII.

Personally, I think it looks pretty good and the price point is right.

The specs are essentially as casio posted.
