IMO the 16-35mm f2.8 is completely useless on a crop camera as the 17-40L is cheaper and sharper, and you lose the wides that you would otherwise get on a FF body. The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 non-VC covers a wider range with the same maximum aperture and only costs $480~ 2nd hand.
