Best portrait lens at this price range. 100mm is a good focal length to use and f2.8 is bright and gives you the great background blur. Not as wide as the 85mm f1.8 but you can get closer than the 85mm to blur the background even more and it has more versatility with the extra macro functions.
Macro lenses are known to be SHARP and this is no exception.
Focus can be switched to reduce range for increased AF speed. Macro lens =/= just macro photography and can be great portrait or telephoto lenses too.
