can we improve cs search engine?

more irrelevant results u mean? cs throws me the most random of stuff.:sweat:

I still get quite decent results from the CS search. I usually use it to find current and past threads on certain lenses.

yea. i suspect anything less than 4 letters u cannot find believe it was mentioned somewhere in this thread. mods or admins, could u try to implement the google embed search?

currently i cant search for anything less than 4 characters. example type in d90 and they will say no match. or maybe i am not doing it correctly. :dunno: :bigeyes: :think:

Search engines on forums are generally not as sophisticate as compare to specialized search engine such as Google. This is because in order for users to search a key word, the search engine will first need to index those key words and store them in the database before hand. So for words that have very few characters (e.g. less than 3 characters), they will mixed up with other commonly used words (or characters) like "the", "are", "I", "a" etc. Due to these complexities involved, forums' search engine will never be able to match the dedicated search engines. So if you need to make an advanced search, it is better to use dedicated search engines like Google.

The administrators of ClubSNAP have intentionally limit the forum search engine from indexing any words with less than four characters as it places a huge processing load on the server when a search for those words are conducted.

Note: Minimum search phrase is 4 characters, thus words like f80, 20D etc will not be found. Unfortunately, there isn't a workaround for this limit currently as we have found that enabling 3-char searches has a severe performance hit on the server.

By adding a wildcard character like * at the end of a word with three characters, you will be able to extend the word beyond the three characters limit and thus search for it with the forum search engine.

Yes, I read about the imposed character limit, hence I search with keywords like 'Canon 24-70mm'. Gotten quite decent results with that.

But lenses with 24mm or 70mm also appear in the search results. I believe a forummer had mentioned this as well in previous comments.

and so they should use the embed google. outsourcing the search all the way into google. no tax on machine, problem solved

Hope the admin take up the suggestion.. CS search can't make it (except the search new posts which is good). ha ha
