currently i cant search for anything less than 4 characters. example type in d90 and they will say no match. or maybe i am not doing it correctly. :dunno:

The forum search right now is almost useless for searching the BnS section.

I go to google and use this instead:

Search: "site:clubsnap.com wtsell d90" without the quotes.

thanks sabee!

we always tell the newbies to search within our forum. then no result come out and they post their questions in newbies section then kanna flamed.

the problem is that the search engine searches for everything with the search term, eg i search 15-85mm, the results will give both 15mm and 85mm. eg 85mm f1.8, 17-85mm, 15-85mm so it gets frustrating when searching for smth rare like a 15-85mm lens cos they give all the wrong results

so use google. i now also use the site:clubsnap.com for more searches. plus side? no 20 sec cooldown and waiting too;)

This method of searching on Google:

site:clubsnap.com
********

(where ******** refers to the information you need to find out more about)
is really good.
I did a test run and I found all the information I wanted on CS with no difficulties.
Not to belittle our beloved CS site, but I personally think we should share this very good way of searching on CS
to everyone, newbies and old members alike, on CS.
Until the search engine on CS could be made more accurate.

Search engines on forums are generally not as sophisticate as compare to specialized search engine such as Google. This is because in order for users to search a key word, the search engine will first need to index those key words and store them in the database before hand. So for words that have very few characters (e.g. less than 3 characters), they will mixed up with other commonly used words (or characters) like "the", "are", "I", "a" etc. Due to these complexities involved, forums' search engine will never be able to match the dedicated search engines. So if you need to make an advanced search, it is better to use dedicated search engines like Google. :)

same, i use google and site:clubsnap.com

Thanks for explaining about the way the forum search engine works. Now I understand it better.
So if that is the case, would it not be possible to add in a Google bar (I don't know what is the exact technical term for this) onto the menu of CS forum?
Someone had raised this previously.
But just that the technicality I am not very sure of it - e.g. whether Google will need to be paid or something like that.

In my mind, I was just thinking that if a small Google search is incorporated into CS, then it would be more likely for the CSers to use it to a better advantage.
Again just my humble opinion.

i second that!

I used both Google search and CS search engine. Usually, Google gives better results, but not necessary more results.

more irrelevant results u mean? cs throws me the most random of stuff.

Well that is probably one of the most feasible options.
Admins, if it doesn't contravene any of CS's principles of operation, perhaps you all could give this embedded search a consideration?
I am sure it will make the whole CS experience much more fruitful because I have realized that there is a wealth of info here from present and past threads... Just that very often I could not successfuly search for them using CS's own forum search.
Thanks, Allen and 9V.
And thanks, Admins, for giving our suggestions here your attention.
