From Italy?
There were too many cases already. You sent the money, the good never comes.
I wouldn't even bother if I were you.

Thread moved to Consumers Corner.

Try to contact past buyers first from ebay: go to his feedback page and search for those persons that bought from him in the past. This ID had not sold anything since June last year! Also, if you go to his companies page, notice that the companies logo on the building is abit slanted, could be just a photoshop thingy......
be careful.

Same price for the two? Hardly believable...hehheh....

There was apparently a scam on eBay recently where some genuine ebay ID's were stolen and used by these scammers to sell or buy things on eBay. they usually asked to use only FedEx for getting their items AND will only pay through credit card or Paypal using scammed credit cards as well.

personally i will only buy if its face to face meet. if u have to mail it.... forget it.

Hi blizzy,

Don't be so scared too lah! I have bought hundreds of items on eBay with no regrets at all!! You only need to be wary and not so gullible to respond or react to certain offers on eBay or other places, if it looks to good to be true, it is usually a scam!! Just like SARS, understand it properly and don't be too paranoid about it. Try a few times on eBay, really it works most of the time! I always make sure there is a pic or ask the seller to send me one, even if they say they don't sell overseas, I always ask first, most of the time they comply if you ask nicely. I hope you will use eBay. It saved me a lot of money on many items!!! (literally hundreds of dollars on LF items).

Why don't you forward this email to ebay and let them investigate?

IMHO, transacting with a stranger personally without a medium like ebay is a hit and miss affair. I have on two occassions transacted on personal terms with two very well rated sellers, and mixed results.

The first was from Tokyo for a USD400 used 98% mint condition camera which turned out to be more like 80%. The refund took about three months and I got back about USD380. Lost about USD50.

The second occassion was for a brand new USD1450 camera and lens from Hong Kong. The lens came out good, but the camera would not switch off. I had to send it back at my own expense, and I was given a replacement.

I still transact on personal terms, but I do it selectively and only for smaller ticket items.

IMHO, it is not worth considering because he is not protecting the buyer. There is no mention how the buyer is protected when the sale is completed.

To me, that is something important.

In the late 90s when the Fuji FinePix 4900Z came out, a seller in Slovakia was offering it at US$799 including a 64MB memory card. Too good to be true? Well, I went for the deal but panicked after 48 hours when I did not received confirmation that the seller had sent the product. I withdrew my money from Western Union at a service charge, but other than that felt relived that the seller didn't take my money and run away with it. Just a story that I had learnt that never to trust a good thing when you see it.

If you want to buy anything, check what is the selling price against reputable online shops say like B&H. Usually, you are able to tell whether is it a genuine discount or somebody is trying to scam you out of your money.

THIS IS A CONFIRMED FRAUD CASE!!!

I am a regular buyer on the internet, but I also regularly post warnings on Yahoo classifieds when I see these posts there. Now you seldom see these people there anymore.

The modus operandi is the same. And a lot are from Italy, Spain, Romania or some eastern european country. I believe they are a syndicate. I know because I nearly got burnt.

1) They target buyers of high value items like laptops, cameras, and camcorders. Their prices reflect a huge discount.

2) They insist on western union or some form of untraceable cash transfer.

3) They even have their own fraudulent escrow website.

4) They can issue tracking numbers for packages that are not even sent out. These numbers are easy to generate by sending out empty packages and then screwing up the paper work so the items don't get to you.

Make sure you know a few things beforehand when buying online or overseas:

1) Western union is as good as sending cold hard cash. A transaction done this way is based entirely on trust. What is your basis for trusting the seller?

2) The seller does not trust you and will not send the camera or lens first and allow you to pay later. They don't even allow COD. Why do you trust him with your thousands of $$$$$$$$$?

3) How much can you afford to lose? There is always a chance the money will be lost with no recourse. I will take a risk if the items are cheap and hard to find, and ONLY if I can afford to lose.

NEVER pay by Western Union or Moneygram because even if it turns out to be a fraud case, there is NO WAY for you to stop payment or get your money back.
