Actually the basic about DOF is the smaller the subject the easier it is to get thin DOF as your subject distance is very small. Basically, with NEX I think the best you can do is the zeiss 24mm f1.8 which is around f2.7 in terms of DOF compared to FF. That is around two stops worse than FX.
Technically speaking is different from real life shooting. I can also do a thin DOF full body people shot with a RX100. It's not a question of which camera can or can't, all cameras can, but the FF camera can do it better under similar condition. The way you put it, quote "For me, the DSLR is used only if I want to achieve thin DOF." sounded like only DSLR can do it. You did not even mention FF DSLR only. I am not trying to argue with you on this topic but simply pointing out the way you put it was very misleading.
