camera shops u will or will not go

I kena con by Alan Photo in funan. so i will never ever go there again.

I would say the word 'con' is being overused here. Did the shops sell you grey sets without telling you? Did they overcharge you? Can elaborate?

Paris Slik Store at Holland Village : very competitive pricing than MS Color, Cathay Photo and John 3:14. Better still is the friendly service.

Will not any other shops or superstores.

Hi all,

care to share your preferences or experiences with us about the camera shops you have went to?

WILL GO
John 3:16 at Funan
the service is good, the staff are knowledgeable to answer my enquiries and recommend me good equipments and accessories to suit my needs.
the price are pretty good too. :D

WILL NOT GO :thumbsd:
Bally Photo at Funan
it's my personal experience, i think they are kinda rude.
they will anyhow recommend things which you don't know how to use and psyco you to buy it and the price are usually MUCH MORE HIGHER than other shops.

for newbies, do more research and survey before buying or you might regret.

Ok Lords seems like a decent shop as well, will look out for it next time, thanks

They sold me a parallel imported third-party lens without telling me about it even though I had been introduced by a professional photographer who was a long standing customer.

I only found out about it after I had a problem with it and went to have it looked at by the agent as it was still "under warranty".

The agent told me that it was a grey set and they therefore had no obligation to service it, but out of goodwill, they fixed the problem.

Also, before I found out about the lens, I had introduced 2 friends who bought Canon cameras from them, and later, I found out from Canon that they are not authorised dealers for Canon.

On both occasions, they said that they were out of stock of the cameras and to come back the next day when they had re-stocked.

I have bought other camera accessories and an extra lens from other sources after the incidents, but I will not give them my business now or in the future.

Will Go: SLR Resolution (Funan)

Will not Go: Square United (Sim Lim)
Cheated my $ like hell ;(
used the same tactics as Bally Photo... And I'm going through alot of problem getting my flash because they are not authorized dealer as they got their goods from Bally Photo...

will go: cathay went there to buy a manfrotto ballhead. salesman was nice and professional

I m helping my dad to look at 18-200 vrII and 10-24... Bally gave me the lowest price of 900 and 1200 w.o gst. Usual price is like 1100 and 1395 at cathay... Are bally ones grey imports or whatever they are called?! Seems like everyone had some really bad experience with them. Although the boy i asked seems abit uninterested/bored.. Any advice? thanks!

this is under my will not go,

salesmen too scary, prices not horrible but not that great, slightly above usual.

that said, all the above is subjective, most people are willing to pay more for happy smiles and verbal massaging. :)

Will Go: Ms Color, Cathay Photo

Will Not: Bally at Funan and all shops in Sim Lim and Lucky Plaza :bsmilie:

Will go: SLR Revolution, Cathay Photo

Will Not Go: John316 (the crowd is so bad everytime that I no longer even bother to check if there is a crowd. nowadays I do not even think of John316)

Always do your home work before getting a camera body or lens. I rmb, last time when I first started off. Want to get the Nikon SLR and thought, my relative, since working in SLT, can help me out. He recommended a old man opposite his shop and so, I went over.

The price, which i got, is much much higher than the promotion. He still want to con me into getting the camera but lucky thing is that I know the price. I didn't brought it and I waited for some time before I got a digital camera.

Recently encounter when I getting my DSLR. When you there, they serve you well. After some time, they seem like lost patience on you. But from my previous experience, a lot of shop also like that, so, bear with it.

I haven't encounter any bad service/shop yet cause I went to those "recommended" shop posted down here. But so far so good, esp with some shops that mentioned here "bad" service, I got "ok" service. :)

will go: J316 (Provided not so crowded) CP, OP

will not: AP(Funan)

will go: ms color @ Blk 711 Ang Mo Kio Central Ave 8. i get my quotes from florence and i get even lower prices cause i got old photographer who always buy frmo there hehe

will not reccommend to go: ms color at amk hub. its comfirm higher priced cause of location etc etc. go the main one. but still a good shop

die also dun want go:alan photography at simlim. very very bad service. price difference also quite big.

No. 1 - Do your research on prices before you buy what you need to buy.

No. 2 - Salesmen selling items at a higher price is not equal to conning. And they are able to do that just because you didn't do (No. 1)

No. 3 - If one shop works for you, just stick to them.

Will go
MS Color Main, OP, TK(depending on staff serving), JO, SLR, CP(situational)

Will not go
TCW, AP Funan

I generally have a good relationship with most of the shops. Except those in SLS. OP is an exception.

SLR Rev, friendly staff although before talking to them they look quite stern. Quite intimidating at first but they are good.
Manly Temple Street. Friendly sales staff patient too!

Will not go John 3:16. hahha.. Cant stand the waiting time there.

All camera shops can go lar. Only whether u trust or not.

Those that u do not trust, make sure u do your homework first and comparison shop before you step in. Those u trust, then can make it virtually your first stop if u have urgent purchases. And then of course, there are those in between.

If u know the price and u have comparison shopped, even those that you dun trust or will normally not go, if they give u better price, will also end up buying from them.

Will not go John 3:16. hahha.. .

Only went once at insistence of silly friend who wanted to ask price of something.
Disliked it. There's no waiting involved. Their business is not that good, lah.
Tend to question the motive of shops that invoke religion in their shop name.

I question the same too. I grow extremely wary when they call every dude a bro.

Depends on what time you go, and if it is weekday/ weekend. The 1st time and last time i went there, quite a few customers were waiting for their turn. Think the queue time at bee cheng hiang also shorter than tat. haha.. jkjk
