hi guys,
i just bought a camera recently and want to overhaul it, as in to oil it and clean it up. can anyone help me on where to go and how much would it cost. i went to TCW the last time to fix the foam linings on my nikon FM and they did a pretty good job. what about the camera hospital?

thanks

Some say the shop is good, but I went there once to get a quote on the cost to fix my Lens ($250 to 300 plus others) told me a big job, lens mount damage, slanted very difficult to fix :what:

Went to canon Singapore, told me just the outer ring above the lens mount needed to be change and will replace the rubber seal and final check on lens ailment or something. Might cost also $200++ depends & need to wait for parts.

Canon Two weeks later call me to tell me the parts are here, forget to go and one more week later call me again,
Went down, final cost was $40 (wo/gst), they replace the rubber seal, check the IS, lens sharpness, and its been working fine until now. Infect its working fine the day it was damage, just some parts need to be change.

Two main thing that strike me is, when clearly there is nothing wrong with the lens mount (actually I drop the hole dame white L on an assignment, although physically damage the dame L is working properly, IS sharpness etc, dame good  lucky still able to use on that day to finish my assignment, client happy)
Now the CH told me this and that, just keep quite and was thinking to myself, are you really a Camera Doctor?

Lucky me.

Oh sorry to put, the lens mount no need to be replaced, as clearly seen its still very good said canon.

i wouldn't advise going to CH unless you really know your stuff. been there once not knowing much about manual cameras and etc, ended up paying 120 bucks for a complete overhaul. whether or not i was overcharged i have no idea, but i have friends paying much less for a CLA.

so unless you know the market rate, and have in depth knowledge of your equipment to aid you in your decision, go ask around the different repair shops to get a rough idea lest you get charged for "unnecessary" repairs deemed necessary by the "doctor" himself.

even better, go back to the manufacturer if possible..

just my 2 cents, hope it helps.

alright. thank you all you guys for the help. it's an old SLR tt i want to overhaul anyway. so thanks..
