camera or person behind camera?

Since I was not there, so I can't say what was the other lady's intention were. And since I'm a nikon user, I cannot 100% same canon behave the same but just to point out that the LCD is not always accurate.

(note again, this is for nikon)
Basically what you see in the LCD is the JPG thumbsize version of the photo. If somehow you set in-camera edit on your camera, it will reflect on the LCD. But if you shoot RAW, what was saved and what you see are different (historgram, white balance, etc etc). Anyway, just to point out another possible scenario on what you see from other people's LCD. Even in my D70, histogram in my LCD preview is okay but when I look at the raw in lightroom, its mostly 1/2 stop under.

I took a sneak peek at her screen and I don mean to be bad or anything, the pictures were, well not up to par. I myself is a newbie. But i am sure that my takes turn out to be better than hers.

before i made the conclusion, i asked my wife to peek too after she took the shots, her comments were the same, her picture were mostly under exposed or one way or another it doesnt seems right. there and than i felt that its such a shame to have such a good camera and stuff but cannot produce. My wife told me ppl are learning too like me, which i cant disagreement more.

So i presume its the person behind the camera, i might be wrong. I must stress that i am not downplaying any brand or anyone, neither am i boosting of my skill, which i think i am quite amateur compared to many here, just my personal experience to share

I can't comment regarding the lady's "underexposed" photo without knowing her intention.
If she purposely underexpose the image for digital manipulations (merge to HDR or other PPs),
that is fine. We can't judge a photo based on exposure alone, composition and timing
are important too.

Try this. Give a bad camera to a good photographer, he/she might just work around the limitations and produce good results. Vice versa, a good camera will never work its way around a bad photographer..... period.

My classmate who is a nikon user, he says "Its the lens."
but i think, the photographer need to identify the sweetspot of the camera/lens under what lighting/settings to produce good photos...

I agree with this...I have a friend who was using his Nikon dslr until the shutter died recently...as he was not ready to get a new dslr but with his passion burning, he still goes around and shoots with a compact...though quality of photos in terms of IQ cannot be matched, the ideas/compositions are fantastic...way better than many snaps randomly with dslr..smooth/high quality picture with hollow ideas...:nono:

camera can buy using money at anytime lah ! money supply can be earned from many sources..

you have not mastered the art and high levels of the bokehdom.

when you have attained bokeh-nirvana, you can look at a photo, and identify what lens took it, which year it was made, and whether it had been owned by henri-cartier bresson before.

those old boring photos you are dissing involves a lot of bokeh-knowledge.

and after bokeh, still got micro-contrast kingdom, leica feel, etc......

Hmm, He has a few good lens including a 80-200mm f2.8 in his possesion, I just don't get it why he doesn't fix his shutter..probably he wants to get the body he wants instead of fixing the new one...

but the point is, equipment aside, if you are still able to get good photographs, you are still good...when I say good photos, I am really not refering to photos with great IQ, zero speck of noise etc...the idea..the intention..;p
