Camera can't focus

Ehhh, this may sounds like a stupid question to many :embrass:
But am new to SLR, so pls shed some light :)

Even when i'm using Av mode or M mode, i'm not able to focus, as such, it doesn't allow me to take a shot at all.
Issit because i'm too near the object?
I am trying to focus the object close with a low aperture to create the bokeh effect.
Even when i switch back to Auto mode, i can't focus too.
What's wrong?

Thanks

May I know what are you trying to shoot at that moment?

like all the guys here replied..... its too close. try moving further back or zooming it out... if all else fails, manual focus MAY HELP a LITTLE BIT. emphasis on the caps

Beneath ur lens there will be a number to indicate the minimum distance, well .. At least for nikon.
