Camera bag which does not shout camera bag - what are my choices?

I think Laptop bags are still a target, there are desperate villians out there....

Nevertheless, whatever bag you carry does not make up for heightened alertness and extra pre-cautions in travels.

Fyi, I attached a whistle to my slingshot bag.
It might come to good use, if someone robs me!
In some countries, people might not understand "HELP! ROBBERY"...so blowing the whistle might be a better option, if sh*t happens.

Within an hour arriving in Paris, and at my hotel's metro station...a poor lone korean lady was nearly in tears as she was pickpocketed at the station.
She was using those large shoulder bag, and she said she was probably picked when a black skinned man brushed against her on the escalators.

Bo pian...Asians in Euorpe.

Good idea! I thought of that too. Maybe wear the whistle around the neck instead of attaching it on the bag. If the bag got snatched or has taken a walked when you are still aware of, you still have the whistle to signal for help :)

I'm looking at naneu Pro Alpha and Godspeed 603.
Both less than S$150? But dont know abt quality, no or little reviews..

How come no one selling inserts only that I can put into my backpacks.

well that is true,

it looks big enough and people will roughly know.

but maybe we don't need a bag,

just do as tourist do,

bring the camera and sling it around your neck.

and of course presuming you are not on a phootgraphy trip but leisure.

i think it's perfect, no need for bags.

my personal style is my M6+50mm Cron.

Bro,
M6+50mm Cron is fine...
I will probably last more than 3 hours with my DSLR+lens around my neck.

I meant I will NOT last more than 3 hours...

If they wanna rob a DSLR on that day, they will probably just look around for the easiest target with a DSLR.
So, even if one carefully kept his/her DSLR in a inconspicuous bag with PANDA brand. They will still follow you to a quieter spot and rob you.

Personally, I wouldnt care less about using a camera bag with logo on the front.
I think it does not matter much, really...

There are really so many people using DSLRs these days, and many chinese/japanese will just sling around their necks and walk around in Europe.

As i mentioned before..to the Baddies, as long as you look like a Chinese tourist..you must be RICH!
Just check out LV and Gucci boutiques in Paris or italy.
My wife and I were probably the poorest chinese tourists in the shop! We left with only 1 bag!

You know something.. often times we need to either sling our tripod bag or attach our tripods to whatever camera backpacks we are lugging around when we walk on the streets of our destination.
I feel that the tripod is a dead give-away, no matter what kind of backpack we use.
Even if it is in a tripod bag, the longish, black bag would already indicate to interested 'parties' that there is some expensive camera equipment inside this set up.

For me, this is still a problem that I have not learned to resolve.

i abuse my tripod bag also

so generally, i look like a bum carrying a beaten up tripod bag and a beaten up billingham :bsmilie:

Most of the time, i just put my camera body in a soft casing and lens in a pouch and put it in my jansport school bag.

Lolxxx...!
Then maybe I should learn to start abusing these fellows that I own... Gaffer them up ugly-ly so on and so forth...

security?
consider lowepro flipside series...

It's always best to exercise caution, and travel in pairs. Doing some of the usual travel rules will avoid you a lot of issues even if you carry a tripod bag, like putting your wallet in a front pocket, carrying your camera properly, and stuff like that will save you a lot of trouble. Getting robbed will usually mean you are in an alley away from other people, so just try to avoid those places despite how it's so tempting to take photos of those areas.

We like to mount our tripods onto the tripod holders in the centre of our Lowepro Flipside 400 and Computrekker, and walk around like that, as it is inevitable that when we travel we simply got to have the tripod around. We feel that this way is convenient (we don't want to sling another extra tripod bag lah...) but yet it seemed a little too obvious. I wonder what other less obvious ways... or maybe no other ways...?

Well, to carry that tripod bag and being a bit more discreet for the safety of your equipment or to flash it lavishly and get targeted by certain people for the wrong reasons? I pick the first.

Yes I certainly agree with your suggestion to hide the tripod in a bag. I may not have made myself clear. What I meant was, we would usually cover up the tripod in a black bag and just mount them on the backpack, so nobody can see the tripod but only a black bag.
That is the best we could do at this moment, as it is definitely more convenient to carry only the backpacks without another bag to sling.
