mine is the 3102 M only.
went to downgrade my firmware in J&J for the other M2 leg.
under auto mode,
if ambient dark, camera will set 1/60 f4,
if bright then its according to ambient and flash just fill.

hope that answer ur question.
no e-ttl2, but can have e-ttl.
10D, 300D, eos 3 and eos 30 works.

jude

you mean can downgrade the firmware from 3102 m2? to what? and after downgrade can use ettl on 10d? how much j&j charge? thanks.

Not unthinkable. Nikon speedlights actually have very accurate auto modes and could be used on any camera with a standard hotshoe.

Unthinkable because a lot of canon users can't imagine using an opposing brand's flash on their highly regarded Canon bodies. Of course, this would work in the majority of situations, but be prepared to use it very manually.

If it is unthinkable, why aren't you using it yourself. xl1 tested it for himself and was proven right. If I am not wrong, he uses it almost exclusively now. If I was still with canon, you would most likely see me with one by now.

using Nikon SB28 as a backup to the 580EX. slightly less powerful (GN 50m) but works pretty well and give accurate exposure in auto modes (synchronising ISO and aperture on camera and flash). I did tape up all the pins except for the centre pin (dun think the flash will short the camera but just to play safe).
Imagine that... SB28/SB28DX was released last millenium and you are comparing it to something that this is the latest product that came out less than 1 year...

$25 plus gst.

Has anyone have any good/bad experience with the Sigma 500 DG flash?

saw from another thread saying its recycling speed is slow :dunno:

Mpenza's experience with Nikon flashes in auto mode dates back to 2002.;)

not recomended if you using it as a slave, the receiver not good enough at certain angle.

There's no comparison done or intended with the 580EX ;p

There is no syncing of aperture, ISO, focal length settings, no AF assist and no high speed sync capability (until 2003, Nikon has no TTL highspeed sync for it's own system unlike users of other systems like Minolta and Canon who enjoyed TTL highspeed sync for years by then). The SB28 (and the earlier SB24/25/26, etc) works on Canon cameras like a Vivitar 285/283 first produced more than 20 years ago. The marginal cost over the Vivitar 285 and the low trigger voltage makes it a great buy :)

Yup yup :) And I might have used it (SB80DX) more if I didn't get a good deal for the 550EX. The main advantage of using dedicated flash is the faster operation (e.g. no need to change aperture, ISO settings on the flash if you change on the camera) and the seamless support for highspeed flash sync.

My Metz 40mz3i and SCA3102M also works well with D30, 1D and 10D, but I lost E-TTL mode with 20D, I almost bought a new SCA3102M2 last year, It is quite strange that 3102M2 can't compatible with 3102M!

yeah lor,
actually send my m2 and my friend's m3 to
downgrade to m firmware.
but during the testings by j&j staff,
things got so confused that they did the
downgrade free for me :)

any recommendation for flashes for taking landscape/protraits? for the 1dmk2

thanks for the help!

the 54-series Metz is a shoe-mount type flash, with a SCA communications module that automatically transmits aperture/ISO/focal length information from the camera to the flash (the flash head will zoom to suit the approximate focal length). there are quirks with using the SCA module, such as shutter speed being locked to x-sync when in Av mode, and aperture locked to smallest in Tv mode - only works well when the camera is in M mode.

Verified with my newly bought 54 Metz MZ-4 on my 10D :sweatsm: ... i foresee no problem using AV mode in camera and using A mode in flash, if i can always bounce the flash and shooting indoor with low ceiling... Let's the stupid camra clock the shutter at 1/200 lor.. what to do.... i'm juz surprise why the flash is so accurate in A mode... nice nice exposure
And one last thing, tried burst 5 shots consecutively... The exposure is very very consistent with my weak alkaline batteries... Being tempted by jude to get the flash, and thanks for recommended this model as i'm very satisfied with it..
