Wow I never knew that my 828 had such good star effects. It looks like a 14 leaf aperture. I knew that my 717 had 6 leaf aperture produing 6 sided star effect

the star effect's caused by the number of blades on the aperture:
even number of blades, n => n sided star
odd number of blades, m => 2m sided star

so in that case the 828 has 7 blades ;)

your ISO not high enough.
thus when the fireflys fly around, the lights cannot be captured, as there is not enough light in any particular spot.

I think ISO 800 was used and the fire fllies were seated all over the tree.
any body ever try fire flies before?. ok, I'll try again with a film camera.

Well, seems that we F828 users are enjoying the 'defect'... ;)

Haha, the equipment woohaa aside, Sony users generally tend to be a notch more creative then their counterparts. That is where it really matters and that is why i am still sticking with my 717.

I think it's because Sony breaks the tradition of a digicam by designing the 717/828 in such a manner that provides power-features yet allowing creativity.
