Buying the D7000. Need Advice.

I very sad to see this thread ...

I think my D7000 is the most expensive in this forum ...

:(

I bought my D7000 body only from Foto CLS @ KSL Johor Bahru for RM3450....

Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 VR

I see , reasonable Price

Bro,

The kit lens is good enough to use as a starter like myself ...
But i just bought a 35mm f1.4G ... so far been loving it.

It is a very sharp and very quick lens. Not very expensive ...

Oh Ya!!!

Sorry ! Sorry !!

I type wrongly !

I bought it at about $330 ...

Must be the ordinary type.

It's already very good to use for my level ...

i wouldnt care about such electronic fairs and IT fairs if i were u. they usually sell the cameras at RRP which is higher compared to the street pricing u find in reputable stores.

i tot i read some where in this forum that a study was conducted and realise that at electronic or it fair.. ppl actually get good deals.. by selling all the extras, the items u need left cost less than street price... i think i read it here in clubsnap...

$330, then I assume you bought the AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 DX
It's not the 'ordinary type', just that it doesn't have the fancier Nano coating and the faster max aperture of f/1.4 and is also only covering the DX image circle

maybe on some rare occasions, but I think generally it is still a better deal at the usual camera shops. Some even give away more freebies during the electronics shows, whilst still charging street prices.

Bought my camera already. $1852 for the D7000 kit + free 8gb card, card reader, tripod and bag at SLR Revolution

wow.. a good 70 dollars cheaper compared to the time i bought in early april, 2011... same package..

It is certainly not lousy. The 35 f/1.8 and the 50 f/1.8 are easily the best value for money when it comes to IQ for the price.

In the hands of noobs like me there is absolutely no difference between the IQ of the f/1.4 and f/1.8 lens once they are stepped down below ~f/2.2.

No la... it's not a lousy lens at all. If you find it lousy, you can always give it to me! ;p
I would say it's like comparing a BMW 5 series with a Maybach (if you know cars). Just because the 5-series is much cheaper, doesn't mean it's lousy :)
The 35/1.8 is a DX lens, which is designed primarily for cameras with APS-C sensors. Of the current Nikon range, that is the D3100, D5000, D90 (just discontinued, I heard), D7000, D300s.
