i'm thinking of buying the crystalvue 8X32 scope from overseas.
ckcpower sells it for USD149

i'm wondering if sg sells a similar function scope?

Try checking Cathay Photo for Leica or Swarovski scopes. They're expensive though.

do u have any idea of the prices of the scopes? cos if they are more ex than USD149, I might as well order from ckcpower and get them to ship over

You're looking at at least S$1600 onwards.

Suggest you shop around SG as I'm sure you can find similar spec scopes here but not sure how cheap though. Other good brands include Kowa & Zeiss.

Do you plan to use it for birdwatching, digiscoping or astronomy (or peeping?:bsmilie: )

Is US$149 including shipping?

Actually 8x32 seems a bit low-powered 'cos there are binos that are 8x32 & 10x42.

$1600??? that price is for what?

maybe will try astrophotography. planning to get after july. will use it like a zoom lens, with option to use the more power zoom for future

USD149 is for the 8X32 scope alone

btw, what's the diff between 8X32 and 8X20?

the unumber 8 i think should be multiply focal length 8 times, aka mutiply zoom 8 times.

the number behind the X leh? what it means?

I think it's angle of view?

Maybe you can PM Wai/Starman as he's into astrophotography for suggestions on scopes & stuff. :D

diameter of the objective lens in mm

just like camera lens...got 52mm, 58mm, 72mm, 77mm....etc

bigger is better cos it can gather more light and allows higher magnifications

therefore for telescope, the diameter can range from 8" (like the one i using) to a much as a few meters in diameter (those are for observatory)

but of cos, the quality of the lens/glass/mirror used is important too

$1600 & above are for spotting scopes that are typically above 15X in power, come with tripod mount and must be mounted on tripod to be used effectively -- they are virtually impossible to use by handholding. Also, they CANNOT be screwed onto a digicam like the 8X32 that your are looking at.

As for the 8x32 monocular, i think it is not available in the shops in S'pore (you can try) but i believe there are a few 8x32 lying in dryboxes in S'pore.:D

If you don't mind getting it 2nd hand you can try posting in Buy & Sell, otherwise online purchase from US may be the only way.
