Buying New Sony Handycam

I am going to buy a new Sony Handycam. I would appreciate if the experts can give some advise.

1. Deciding between HDR-PJ600VE (HDD based) and HDR-PJ760VE (memory card based). Pros and Cons?
2. What's the difference between Sony G Lens Vs Carl Zeiss?
3. Where is the best place to buy video camera.? Something like cathay photo, MS Color, SLR...etc for DSLR.
4. With the current Sony promotion on (Sony Singapore | Sony Days 2012 : Handycam ) and with the free gifts, are the prices fixed or negotiable?

Thanks.

PJ760 sports the latest Balanced Optical Stabilisation. In itself is reason enough. PJ760's flash memory has no moving parts so uses less energy and has no wear and tear.

2. What's the difference between Sony G Lens Vs Carl Zeiss?
The PJ760 looks at least 1 stop brighter than the CX700 it replaces . Not sure if its the lens or the newer chip.

3.PJ760 is selling at $2000 incl GST Alan Photos.
4. Sony Singapore days sells products at MRSP: usually the highest possible price that an honest retailer would quote. But do check out their promotions. It could still be worth your while.

To save a few hundred dollars consider the CX740, CX730 PAL from bhphotovideo. They are exactly identical in performance to PJ760 minus the projector. There is also a PJ720 from Australia minus a viewfinder. The PJ760's viewfinder is absolutely useless anyway - low res, tiny, and obstructed by the battery.

Sorry, are u saying the PJ760's viewfinder is useless? or are you referring to the Projector? Just to confirm.. thx.

I too have seen the projected movie quality and of course it;s not impressive at all... but since CX740, CX730 and PJ720 are not available locally in SG, i think I will go with PJ760. I have never purchased online and don't know how to do it plus i prefer to have local warranty.

thx again for your valuable inputs...

Looked thru the set's images, i believe you were referring to viewfinder... pardon my ignorance. thx

:).. made my purchase of PJ760VE liao... while charging the battery and going through the manual, i have a few questions to ask:

1. Is it necessary to attach a permanent lens filter for PJ760VE (to protect from finger prints & dust, condensation??)?
2. No way to attach the provided lens hood once a lens filter is attached (tried using my old lens filter)?
3. Is there such a thing, screen protector for the LCD touch screen?

thx.

1. There are pros and cons to attaching a UV filter as protection. While it offers good protection against wear, it may cause ghosting, focusing problems and lens flare, especially the cheaper ones.
2. No. the lenshood provided will not fit over another filter. But you can use third party lenshood with 52mm thread
3.You can buy LCD touch screen protector from any camera shop.

Thanks again. :)... Tis forum seems not very active but luckily we have you...

1. I think I'll have my filter attached until i encounter those issues you mentioned.
2. 3rd party lens hood will block the flash/video light, i think.
3. I meant to ask if there is specific SP meant for PJ760VE LCD touch panel. I found this SP at Sony website PCK-L30WCS : Others : Cyber-shot™ Accessories : Sony Singapore .

Thx.
