My friend is going over to Singapore than to Tokyo for a holiday and is looking to buy a compact camera he has in mind. However, I am currently not in Singapore and I have never been to Tokyo, so I have no idea what are the prices are like in both countries now. I need some advices from fellow CSer on whether it will be cheaper to buy the camera from Singapore or Tokyo?

Thanks.

Sorry if i posted this in the wrong section.

Guess nobody can answer a question like this. It all depends on the shop's pricing. If you friend buys a camera from one of those 'chop carrot' shops here, then it might end up hell more expensive than in Tokyo. It can also be other way round though. So the easiest way to is to find out which camera your friend is plannign to get, check prices in Singapore and then in Tokyo ... and decide.

Just came back from Tokyo, i think it is still cheaper to buy in SG than Tokyo.

cheers!

Thanks for your info. Hope you enjoyed your trip :)

It is usually more expensive in Tokyo. Don't bother.

in tokyo electronic store, they sell the cameras at a cheaper price. 1 year ago i went over and saw a sony camera selling for $350 in tokyo and singapore was selling at $550.

But the language can only be set in japanese and in sg no warranty ba(no sure).

mebbe for first hand its abit more pricey inclusive of delivery but for their 2nd hand items it can be considered. .. ask your friend to check for you.. .

u can find slightly cheaper lenses in tokyo still... but it is very troublesome. its usually the smaller shops that are out of the way and they likely have very little stock.

if you know people/shop, u can find good buys but only on the higher priced items (i.e. above SGD3k).

if the item u are buying is 1k+, you probably won't see any savings.

prices in Tokyo are definitely cheaper then Singapore if the exchange rates are not bad.

But check out the exchange rates. The last time I was there in may, the rates were so bad, it was actually more exp to get my stuff in Tokyo.

If you can live without warranty and the exchange rate is good, buy from Tokyo.

Agree. Generally camera manufacturers such as Nikon and Canon priced their bread and butter lenses much lower than the niche lenses so that is why we see a big gap in the higher priced ones and not so much in the lower to medium price range lenses.

Hi there..

I'm absolutely new here in cs...

I've just came back from Tokyo and I would like to share that the prices of the compact cameras has got to do with where in Tokyo your friend is going to.

I've been to about a quarter of Tokyo but i've seen difference like from 5000 yen to 1,400 yen from a similar model of compact camera.

so yea... it'll be good if you can share more information..

sorry, i meant 5000 yen to 14000 yen
