Hi all
I know this store and quite convince me since the price tag is cheaper though they sell grey set.
I want to buy canon lens 70-200 with them. Any one of you has experience buying lens from them? Quality of their warranty ? Their lens code series maybe, becoz I worry after I buy, in case I want to sell it i got difficulty becoz it is grey set/not under Sg warranty??
The price difference is quite big, around 444 dollar. Is it worth to choose grey set over local set? What do you think??
thanks so much!!
:D

Unless you will be selling the lens within the warranty period, otherwise, what is the difference between an out-of-warranty SG local set and an out-of-warranty gray set? The answer is None...

Yeah I know
What do you suggest? additional 444 dollar for SG 1 year warranty for grey set?

I got my portable point and shoot s90 from them. For lens like prime i will get from DD if the lens is below 500

If u r buying a zoom lens, if the mechanism is faulty or u want higher resale value...Local warranty i feel it better. Local warranty u can extend

Save youself from all the trouble, buy local

Fixed or Prime Lens like this can buy - I guess no problem one as not much mechanicals in this type of lens

AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Autofocus Lens
$236

$444 can be very useful, I don't mind. I notice most of the seller in B&S wish to let go their item due to low usage. Time past fast, 1 year maybe just a blink.

If I were you, I would go for the gray set and save the money for other gear.

is grey set means no warranty card?
so it's not serviceable or repairable by nikon, canon SG?

DD electronics will provide 3 months 1 to 1 exchange. 1 year warranty by them.

I just bought a lens(small tix item) from them and I must say their service is quite good. No hassle. But do rem to do online order coz they don't have space for stocks. You order, they bring in.

is this in USD?

If the price difference is $444, then it is a no-brainer. Canon will accept servicing of overseas and grey set lenses, as long as you got $ to pay them. But nowadays, the chances of lens failing in the first year is very rare, especially the model which you specifically mentioned. It is very well built. So just go ahead and get it :) You will be pretty happy with their service too :)

As for resale price, just price it lower than the local sets lor, if for the same model and same condition, you price it at $200 cheaper than the local sets, do you really think there will be no buyers? Most of the time, it is people who try to price grey set at the same price as local set that faces difficulty getting their gears sold. If you price it reasonably, should not have issue. Overall, if you do it that way you will still save a cool $244 ;)

As for me, there are a few things to consider.

- Using it for own purpose and won't think of reselling it.

or

- Use it for a while and sell it away to change lens.

I've gotten my 7D from them too. Aside from what people had been talking about grey sets, I'm glad that I bought it from them as it's cheaper than the other sellers outside, other than no freebies which I don't need. And the other factor is that their customer service is damn good, which most CS-ers had agreed.

But not everything from that shop is cheaper anyway. Haha. So again, GO FOR IT!!!! XD

Grey set means it is still an original but authorised to sell in other countries other than Singapore. To discourage you from buying a grey set because the retailer here won't earn your money, the agent will not recognise your 1st year warranty. After the one year warranty ends, they will repair/replace damaged parts at the prevailing rates like any other local sets.

There's a 0.02% chance a new product will fail. It's only a chance a smart buyer will take to save $444 as TS has mentioned. Why fret? I too have been buying grey sets and my gears have never given me trouble even after end of one year.

You buy and then thinking of selling shows that your buying decisions are not based on your needs but rather based on your wants. So think carefully before making your purchase.

Buy from them if u don't intend to sell off soon... save some $ for other stuff.. they are trustable... only thing is might have to wait...

I agree with your last sentence.

For the 70-200 lens, I suggest you really think hard and long about it first before buying it. It is not a lens that amateur or hobby users like to keep or use often. Many people who buy it, regret it and have a hard time selling it. Regret not because it is no good, but because it always just sit in their dry cab. I suggest you renting it instead if you only need it on the odd occasions, unless you use it for work.

These are just my thoughts as I have been through it before :(

For grey set, it is important to get from stores that are reliable and give you in-house warranty. I had an experience, bought 105mm macro and second week it gave me auto focus problem. I bring it back to the shop with the receipt and he gave me 1-1 exchange without any question.
