Buying from B&H?

buy from bnh, adorama or even ebay sellers if you can accept not being able to handle/check the item before purchasing. with reputable sellers it should be fine. i'm all for buying online rather than giving my hard earned money to local stores with their largely substandard customer service and attitude.

If you receive an item from us that is faulty upon arrival, we will cover the return costs. Any problems, drop me an email: HelenO@adorama.com

Wow I didn't know that Adorama's Customer Service had a CS account :o

There's one person from B&H photo on CS as well.

Many of the American retail companies take customer service very very seriously. Something I have always missed ever since I left after my studies. :D

How does their warranty works?
1) Grey sets - I assume there is no local(Singapore) warranty covered. Buy at own risk.
2) USA warranty - Is it covered under Nikon Singapore warranty?

I heard from friends that warranty for most lens(except body) that are bought overseas will be covered locally.
A bit confused by this statement, just wanted to clear the air.
Thanks.

If you buy from overseas such as USA, then the term "local" means USA warranty. Some items will carry "International warranty" which the SG service centre will honor (such as Nikon, Canon, etc...)

If you buy from B&HPhoto, their gray sets are covered by B&H "shop warranty" which means if something goes wrong, you need to contact B&H and they will be responsible to get it repair (either by asking you to send the item back to B&H or sometimes they will reimburse you to get the repair locally).

Thanks CS,
so isn't it better or us to go 'grey' since we can return to BnH?
How does it work if we buy USA warranty sets?
USA sets are not covered in Nikon Singapore right?

Yes, I guess if you rather deal with BHphoto instead of Nikon USA, then you should go for the "Imported" ones. But take note that the imported items are not eligible for manufacturer's rebate program which can sometimes be quite substantial.

CS, from what u mentioned am I right to say we can also get USA sets and deal with Nikon USA directly.
Just that we'll need to bear own shipping cost?
Cos I saw some items offer 5yrs USA warranty.
Wow... Local stores should consider offering that too! :P

most of the time, overseas retailers like B&H, Amazon etc... always seem to OVERPACK their packaging. i ordered my Nik Software Plugins for Photoshop from B&H, and i say the bubble wrap, peanuts etc... quite literally buried the software box. so, unless you are super super lucky, i doubt anything you order from the big retailers in US will come damaged. :bsmilie:

i can't say that for ebay tho.

yes, you courier the item back to them (Nikon USA, Canon USA or whatever), they will repair it and ship it back to you. As far as I understand, Nikon only provides international warranty on lenses/flashes but not camera bodies.

If you buy USA sets, you have to deal with Nikon USA directly and not bhphoto.
