Buy local or online from USA?

Hi

I checked the price for EF70-200 f4.0l usm.
It is about $1100 here in sg.
Online from USA, it is about us$700, which is about sg$950 (shipping & exchange)
Is it worth the $100 or so savings?

other then shipping n exchange ..you still got to factor in the GST..from US, there is no warranty too.

Online store does not charge gst if order from outside their states. I am not sure if singapore customs will collect gst.
On usa warranties, this is what i got

"For film cameras, lenses and speedlights, a product with a US-warranty should be reciprocally warranted by the manufacturer's service centers worldwide. B&H Photo-Video does not sell any "grey market" still-digital cameras at this time."

Anyone with experience servicing us warranty lenses from csc?

anything over 400$ from overseas. regardless of what item, as long as customs sense that it might be over 400$, they will probably keep it until u pay them the GST(they will send you a letter saying that its with them).. so the savings is not much actually according to your product

It's required to declare the value of the parcel coming thru singapore ports(air or sea). The sg customs will impose a gst on value over $400. hence 7% gst on $950 will be $67. If you recieve a faulty copy of the lens or some stains/marks on the lens, then you have to ship back the lens on your own costs.

I read about the return, which is a bit of a pain.
Guess the savings is not much, risk is there and not sure about us warranty service in SG.

Canon lenses no longer offers international warranty. So no need to be unsure. There is no warranty.

I think the price is quite reasonable for that lens and it has 5% off for CS members! I'm by no mean related or connected to them. Just wanna share a good find.
