Hi there. Really like your style which leans heavily towards modern sculpture rather than traditional photographic art such as in photo journalism or street. You have a very good eye for form, texture, colour, space, all key elements of a good image. More importantly, you have the gift of appealing to the viewer's deeper emotion, to take a closer look, as evidenced by the many many feedback you have received.

Question: Would you feel this picture would benefit from moving the vertical of the fence towards to left or right?

Did you have prior training in formal art? Either way, your talents should be honed and encouraged and I look forward to seeing your work in a gallery or museum someday.

Keep shooting and posting :)

Because the fence it self not a solid surface (with many big holes), so I had an opportunity to shot it with backlight (sun at the behind of the fence gate) and also can get the back ground of the sea. The fence I composed only half portion of the frame (at the right side of the frame) so the rest of frame still can show the sea with ship as the back ground. At the same time the gate of the fence (as major subject) can be positioned at the center of the frame with sun backlight. Hahaha….it just what I though when I captured this photos.
In photography, I didn’t have a formal education / training background. I learn it (and still need to learn more and more) from friends, from Clubsnap forum, from books + magazine and websites, after that I just try to shot and combined it with what I preferred.
For formal Art education / training, I studied architecture, probably this background help me to compose the subject into a frame and some other visual things (colors, propotion of subject compare to the frame, angle, etc) but not the feeling (perception of the subject) and the technical aspect (how to set the camera).
Honestly when I shot something, I just follow what I “see” => what I “feel” interesting about it and start to “shot with Trial and Error”. Try this and that and explore more about it sometimes give me a new experience and different feeling. I take it as a process and also as part of practical learning. If what my feeling / intuition (after I see the subject but before I shot) match with the composition, light, moment, etc (after I capture it)……than I say …..that is the photo. If I haven’t matched that, then I need to start it again from “zero”…..i walk + look around and try to feel again wheter it has other opportunities to capture in more interesting way. “Follow our heart (what we feel) + free our mind” it would be a better way to bring out our creativity in doing photography. And of course always do it in happy way ;p
