build a PC for video editing!

Thanks guys for all your input, i've chosen a i7 820, a few hdd, win7 as the setup.

Now I'm deciding which path to take to get 5D2/7D video files into Premiere Pro, the headache starts now!!

I think Dixon brought up a really good point. The choice of NLE is critical too. Some NLEs may require less resources for preview during editing and are faster in rendering out, all because of more efficient algorithms.

I am a novice: sony camcorder dv - movie maker & photography 1d3 - cs4 webpremium. I 'm having a blast;p with these n its now my hobby so the next step is to get 'satisfied':lovegrin: - the webs got all the reviews on equipement hard n soft this is one

Software: cs4 + grass valley edius 5
I believe each got its own thought on what n how it fits their work(hobby) n having a budget it will tell u whether can or cannot lor! For me this is my setup(till further changes)

The above hardware setup will not probably touch 3K - get the price list from PC Themes for DiY. I havent got my 5d2 Im totally saving up for next yr buying:
5d2 + NLE PC & softwares...mmm 10K?:sweat: Google n you know that videography + photography is a very expensive hobby - no matter how you want to 'get cheapest'. You will need 'love & passion' on ur hobby - I guess your wife will let u go...for now:angelcos. i havent include my lenses:0..lolz)

- GTX285 2GB DDR3
about 2.5k, the rest salvaged from old pc.....
