Budget Wide Angle lens

not to be rude or anything but. A 20 prime is considered wide. If it werent considered wide then it would be? Normal? The lenses you guys talking about are in the ultra wide range.

hmmm I re-read the TS' first post, and I think I've mistakenly assumed that TS is looking for a UWA, since he mentioned that he owned 18-105.
I guess I assumed that he wanted a lens with a shorter focal length than 18mm, thus the suggestion of the 20/2.8 seemed redundant.
But yes you are right. 20mm gives 30mm FOV on a DX camera, which is slightly wider than normal. Still considered wide.

Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 on D80. Shot at f2.8, 1/8, ISO800, 14mm.

The crazy sharpness wide open enables shooting handheld at night (especially on DX you get the center sweetest spot). Real situation sky darker than picture actually, but the exposure made up for it. This is where it makes the differences between have a photo or having no useable photos at all, unless you lugged a tripod along.
This is serious poison but definitely not good for DX IMHO.
You pay a HUGE premium for the full frame 14mm f2.8 coverage. On FF, even the corners are razor sharp. For DX, buy the 11-16 since it can use filters and costs much less.

Actually SabaDen recommended the strong poison first, I only support. ;)

I bought mine in consideration for FX upgrade. Buying a DX UWA will result in me eventually selling it at a lost and buying the 14-24 at end of the day.

Errr ... stretch it to +/- $2.4k and get the Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 and you got a lens for life. :bsmilie:  :bsmilie:
