Personally, I would, because they all have their own applications. The 50mm prime will be useful if you really squeezed and need a lens that's faster than the Tamron by one or two stops for concerts/ indoor events.

The kit lens itself can be handheld in low light conditions if you bump up the ISO and are careful with technique. 18mm at the wide end is excellent and I find myself going there more and more often.

Thanks for your comments.
So you mean that the kit lens better than Tamron in low light condition ?
The wide end of kit lens no doubt have its advantage over Tamron 28 mm.

under low light tamron with its f2.8 is still better than kit lens + high ISO..
unless talking about WA which only kit lens can reach then no choice..

Check this out.
Sigma 24-70.DG Macro Got my copy today but has back focus prob :(
Vs the Canon 24-70L

Sigma 18-200 as it has wide to tele zoom with < $600.
The image is sharp and clear.
It is a good walk around lens for prof and amateur.

I used to have 28-135mm f/3.5 -5.6 IS USM for walk around lens.. 2nd hand at SGD 500;p

One thing to take note before you take the plunge into all the f/2.8s ....

I bought a used Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 from a fellow CSer. I love the lens. It's attached to my camera most of the time now. But, because of this, my arm muscle also gets some development :P You might want to consider this. Great lens, but might not be 'walk-around' type because it's darn heavy.

The 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM II is also a great budget lens. This can be had for like $250 used.

Regards,
JK

Agree about the good walk around lens part and good quality at 18mm wide. but it's quite soft from the 150-200mm length, and some corner softness. Also some distortion for wide and tele end though, slow focusing in low light.
But it's light and cover a great length, good daylight trekking and travel lens.

Wah I've heard about the Sigma 24-70.DG Macro being good. I didn't expect it to be so much better than the significantly more expensive 24-70f2.8L
o.O
