hey guys!

My name is Bryan and I hope to use this thread to chart my video making journey. I usually add the videos to blogs on my travel site too so people can get a better idea of the places we write about. simple 2 min highlight type of stuff.

Jan 2013
I picked up filming at the start of this year after seeing a goprohero3 commercial. I thought it was super cool and i wanted to share our experiences like that. the next day i went out to buy my first video camera. sadly my videos look nothing like that but i am learning, and maybe improving. at least thats why my friends say but they are my friends after all. my first videos were really bad so just posting the later ones.

Oh i noticed quite a few talented video makers in Singapore on youtube already, which is great to see.

Anyway would love any comments or feedback on how to improve.

June 2013
At this point i saw my first devinsupertramp video and fell in love. I thought, ok now i have to get a glidecam. of course i learnt all these equipment are not magic pills and there is still a long road ahead of learning that comes with experience. i also had to get a proper camera just to look more professional because pple were looking at my tiny gopro and inside probably not taking me seriously.

Nice works you have done! I really like.

You did give me a lot of options and ideas of bringing my family out.

I am no expert in videography as I am also on a learning journey. I was not particular about your video quality because your videos provide interesting information and letting me know of such places. I was keen to see more in your videos. Maybe you could add someone briefly sharing tips or sharing information of certain things.

Like for me, I love Ao Nang, Krabi. I have been there 4 times over the past 2 years. If any of my friends asking me where to go for holiday in Thailand, I will suggest Ao Nang, Krabi. I will share with them what to expect. What to do. Where is the nice place to eat. Just that I never capture those in video.

Great Job! Keep your videos of more interesting places coming in! :)

Thanks so much for the feedback daniyal! Yup I have much to learn still haha.

Yup i need to add more tips and information. im debating if i should try to put them in the video or just leave them in the article that goes along wiht it, because i read somewhere that pples attention tends to drift if the video is too long.
I definitely want to add in voice overs and stuff at some point. Right now im still really concious of my voice and Singapore accent, and I am trying to lose a bit more weight before i go infront of the camera haha.

Do share some of your videos too!

July 2013

Here is our latest video from our weekend staycation at W Hotel. Sentosa Cove is so beautiful, i think its a photographers heaven.

We're off to Legoland then the Maldives next, hopefully we can do it justice. I've watched the devinsupertramp maldives video like 50 times now lol.

Hi Bryan,

Don't compare with devinsupertramp. He earn a living by making videos. He is a film-maker in his own rights and style. He has his own crew.

For your reviews, why don't you mix them up between articles and videos? There are places that cannot be described in words.

During my 2nd ride up to Ao Nang, me and my buddy got lost on the way. Imagine this, 3 times I rode up to Ao Nang, 3 different routes. Even I used the same GPS. There was this Buddha statue that was craved out of cliff in a quarry. And this quarry was in one of the Thai villages. MAN! It was a sight. It did not crossed my mind to take a picture of it. For this case, I dun think an article will do justice.

Video length, for me personally, 3-5 mins video is a good length.

Documentation of my mistakes and my learning journey.

Thanks so much for sharing daniyal! Yup trying to mix them up now, leaving the video bit for parts that must be seen not read!

Here is our latest trip to Legoland Malaysia. Not as good as my previous one. Also i keep trying to color correct but my color still very flat. I think im doing something wrong :(

Your color correction is good. White is white. Skin tone is usual. So there is nothing wrong with your color correction.

You did capture the essence of the place that you visited. That's what I am more interested in.

Anyway, you can google online for more color correction tips. You can try this method..

1. Use a Fast Color Corrector Effects.
2. Adjust your shadows, midtones and highlights to 16 - 1 - 237 respectively.
3. You can use the midtones to adjust the overall brightness. You increase to 1.2 from 1.
4. Adjust the color wheel accordingly using skin colour or anything that is white in the video. Make sure they are what you see.
5. Adjust the saturation accordingly.105% - 125%.

Alternatively, you can visit Learning DSLR Video | Learn How To Shoot HD Video With A DSLR for more in depth. Here, you will find many tips that will accelerate your learning curve.

Just sharing my mistakes.

Thanks so much for those helpful tips daniyal! I am getting the hang of it now!

Here is my reason trip to Maldives. Really disappointed with myself... My gopro lens fogged up and I did not realise till later, sigh. Tried sharpening and denoising but it didn't do much. Oh well, I am going to remember this mistake for a very long time.

I think the fogging adds a dreamy feel to the video. Don't be too hard on yourself :) I just feel that you need to choose better music. It's too "rocky" for a Travel video log. The LegoLand music is good.
