I've always wanted to try a day out with a flash in hand shooting with a similar style with them. Especially in daylight. The problem is that I'm not very sure how to control the flash whilst shooting on film and I am well a bit worried of how the public would react to me shooting like that.

So what I'm suggesting is are there any others with a similar desire to mine. And if you're out there why not lets meet up for a group outing.
I think it will be beneficial as it allows us
1) to gain confidence in such a method by shooting with others
2) share tips on how to improve
3) just to gather some support for such a style locally

Tell me what you guys think?

Cheers

I think the lack of responses shows how unpopular the idea of flashing a subject can be in Asia :P

Not to mention, the idea of a group of people flashing (with their cameras) on a street would be pretty darned scary.

I personally think you should just start small and build up confidence. Don't have to spend a whole day doing it.

If you have a digital camera, you can use it to meter the effects of the flash before using it on film. A general rule of thumb for daylight would be 1/50 ISO 400 SF24 on full power. (not sure what flash you're using)

IMO, don't be too worried about shooting flash in daylight. The effect isn't as blinding as it is at night. Flashing a smile and explaining what you're doing tends to help ease tense situations as well. Just try not to come off as a creep.

Good luck and have fun!

It seems to be. Well I shall continue hoping for some support.

Albeit an intrusive and some may find offensive style. It is unique and the expressions caught can be highly entertaining. I guess practice makes perfect. Well if no one wants to do an outing. Has anyone done it before? What are your thoughts? Suggestions? Lessons you learnt! :)

Done it before over a year ago. The problem is, flash pics look very much the same unless you use the drama and shadows made to your advantage. Check out mark Cohen. Personally not a fan of his but he creates more dynamic shots using his flash.

Biggest lesson is, we tend to overthink people's reactions. I didn't have much trouble while trying it out. Just smile pleasantly.
