hi to all
i am going on a trip to china soon and will be shooting film all the way there.
i am thinking of bringing negatives from singapore so i would like to ask if the luggage scanner will expose the film or spoil it somehow? also will there be any issue if i am shooting at temperature around 5-10 degrees?

looking forward to replys:D

Shouldn't be a problem unless you are using the ISO 1600 or 3200 film. The X-ray should be safe for film up to ISO800 film. If you are worried, you can get those X-ray safe bags for film to store them in. I think a couple of shops in Pennisular should still have them.

Luggage scanner will kill your film. Handcarry scanner ok, but must look for the X-ray safe sticker.

will check them out after a'lvls
thanks for all replys!:)

normally what i would do is...show the custom officer or hand carry.....when they ask...tell them this is photography staff and should not be check in to scanner...

you can always get ready a roll almost expose one..worst case.....pull it and expose it before the officer.....to convincen them these are high speed film and sensitive to light.

:)

China is still okay because at least you can speak their language (assuming you can speak mandarin) but when I went to other countries the customs officer bought nothing of that hand carry negatives past the x-ray machine nonsense... so no choice had to put them thru the machines.. but came back fine :dunno:

As for shooting in low temperatures... this is film! You can probably bring it to antartica and it'll still work! Only issue is your camera, if it runs on batteries there might be a small issue with that.. but most of the time I wouldn't worry too much compared to bringing a digital body. :)

thanks guys. really helpful.:)

can bring my fm2 and my films to shoot shoot shoot without too much worries!:D

The temp should not affect the film enough to be noticed...

I used to carry plenty of film thru to Shanghai. No problem passing thru the xray machine. I used to put them into one of those xray safe bags but they attract attention from machine operators and they'll ask for inspection anyway, so I don't bother. The only problem I had so far was thru KLIA where the security asked me to open the box and case of every one of about 30 rolls I was trying to carry.

Oh, hand carry the film. Don't check it in. Then again someone once told me that when the film is imported it goes thru very powerful xray scanners anyway and we're being paranoid.

I've read about how the film might break at low temperatures, but I've gone below -10C without any problems, so no worry there.
