heya peepz.. hoping someone can help me with two questions:

1) Which brand carries a reasonable range of filters at a low price? I find Corkin (sp?) at Cathy Photos quite expensive.....

2) I wish to get a fisheyes/wide/tele lens... which brand would cheap, yet reasonably reliable?

Thanks!

urm, you can't buy lens for your camera my dear. But you can get a wide lens adaptor and stuff. I don't know what's available for the A80. Thus you'll be asking about adaptors instead.

Probably you could search the forum for A80, you might get more info.

No worries, I'm also a noob :D

Hi Vynara,
generally when you say wide-angle/tele LENS, you are talking about SLR-type lenses, which are interchangeable. For these, you can get third party lenses which work as well and are usually cheaper (e.g. Sigma, Tamron, Tokina lenses for Canon, Nikon, Minolta mount etc.) For the A80, which is a point-and-shoot cam, the lens is fixed. What you can get are wide-angle/fisheye/tele ADAPTORS (as helmetbox has pointed out), as they do not replace the lens but rather alter their function.

As ADAPTORS go, as far as I am aware, there are hardly any third party alternatives. You are basically stuck with what the manufacturer (in your case, Canon) makes and sells to you. I could be wrong....anybody else know?

Hope this helps a little,

there are third party lens adaptors also, like lensmate, raynox, tiffen etc etc. I seriously don't know their performance and have not used any before. Probably should check with shops or with other A80 users :D

take your time, no point rushing to buy everything and not use them. Thats why they call it building a system :D Anyway you can always look at the used section. Such accessories are okay to buy second hand. :D

Dear people, hope you can try getting your terminologies right to prevent more confusion... :)

Lens -> generally speaking, people assume "lens" as those to be mounted on D/SLRs, e.g. 50mm lens, 28-80mm zoom lens. Yes, yes, used broadly "lens" can mean any piece of light-gathering glass, but by using it in context makes things easier for all of us to help you. :)

Adaptors -> lens attachement to alter the function of your lens, e.g. wide-angle adaptor, telephoto adaptor, macro adaptor.

Thanks! :)
