Bon Appétit

This looks really really good!!!

Indeed, it is superdelicioius.... Give it a try! Like the gravy in Chili crabs, you can also 'dip-dip' :) I have used prata, martabak and if you are adventurous enough, try goreng pisang (banana fritter), it will give you a whole new world :D The combination of sweet, spicy and sour is really unique :)

Malay Food

Step into Bedok Food Centre or Bedok Corner and you’ll be charmed by its laid-back atmosphere spiked with the anticipation of good food. It has a particularly interesting cluster of Muslim stalls along with a few Chinese stalls plus snacks and desserts and has completed its upgrading recently from the original hut which was built in 1965. As the area used to be a Malay village, the new Bedok Food Centre was upgraded with a Malay kampong design theme. Apart from famous for its Malay food (some are unique and not commonly available in other places), Bedok Food Centre is also known for its super long queue Hokkien Prawn Noodles, Cuttlefish Eng Cai and dessert (cheng teng, ice-kacang, ice-jelly, and organic douhua/tofu pudding).

Tahu Telur

Tahu telur (tahu means tofu and telur means egg) is a popular Malay dish originated from Indonesia. Tofu/bean curds cubes are mixed with eggs, salt, pepper and cornstarch and then deep-fried in a mould. Hot oil is continuously poured into the mould till the egg is crispy and brown and then served with sweet dark/brown sugar sauce, garnish with cucumbers and carrots and sprinkle of ground peanuts. Though similar but do not confuse this delicacy with Tahu Goreng.

Tahu telur is available in many places but (one of) the best I have ever had is from this stall in Bedok Food Centre.

Though a deep-fried dish, the tofu & eggs here are not too oily and remain crispy even after a while. Unlike many other stalls where the tahu telur are pre-fried, the business is so good here usually it is only made when ordered.

This tahu telor looks yummy. Personally, I don't really like the one at rice table restaurant, the kacang is like bumbu satay, very thick. I think tahu telor in kuah kupat tahu petis will taste really nice *drooling*

Oh yes!! By the looks of your photos, I will definitely make my way there :bsmilie:

Yup, I don't like the thick peanut sauce either, kinda compete with the crispiness of the eggs but the sauce shdn't be too diluted. Would be great something in between like the pounded sauce for pecel

I hope you won't be disappointed. Don't leave your cam at home ;p

Pisang Goreng

Pisang goreng or goreng pisang (fried banana in Indonesian/Malay) is a very popular snack food throughout Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The banana is battered and then deep fried in mixture of flour, egg and sugar. Today's pisang goreng are more sophisticated and served in various ways, such as with condensed milk, jam, cheese and chocolate.

This stall is one of my favorite place to go for this snack. Apart from the usual pisang raja, they use many other types of bananas too.

Satay or Sate is one of the delicacies that I will always order but this one was rather disappointing. Over-grilled, the meat was hard and rubbery.

Roti John

Another version of cheesy Roti John, similar to those served in Spize but (almost) at half the price.

Ice Kacang

Ice Kacang or 红豆冰 is a very popular dessert of shaved ice with red beans, grass jelly, atap chee (palm nuts) and creamy sweet corn and tops with evaporated milk/chocolate, gula melaka/palm sugar or brown sugar syrups. Some stalls have also introduced novelty toppings such as ice-cream, sour-soup, mango and even durian. I prefer the original and this was taken from the stall famous for its cheng teng in Bedok FC.

Wanton/Char Siew Noodles

Apart from Hwa Kee of East Coast Lagoon and Kok Kee of Lavender FC, this humble stall in a small coffee shop along Serangoon North Ave 4 is one of my other regular (favorite) place for wanton noodles. The char siew pork are really tasty and tender, the wantons are superb too. What I love most is their dark sauce which is kinda special and different from the usual ones in the market.

Taiwanese Food

My wife and I revisited Taiwan (particularly Sun Moon Lake and Taipei area) last week. We love Taiwanese cuisines especially the wide-variety mouth-watering street food. Our kids were left at home this time round so we could venture deep into the super-packed night markets. It was indeed a gastro-satisfying trip and I am sharing some shots taken in the following series.

SUN MOON LAKE (日月潭)

Numerous mountain ridges surround Sun Moon Lake. Such a unique geographical environment has enhanced the mouth-watering gourmet varieties here, ranging from poultry and seafood specialties, to farming crops from the neighboring towns. No wonder it is also named the “Gourmet Heaven”!

The particular natural conditions in the Sun Moon Lake area have given it numerous unique local products. The lake itself yields plump and tasty topmouth culter (Erythroculter ilishaeformis) and chili (Hemiculter leucisculu) fish, as well as lake shrimp, while the land produces an abundance of Assam black tea, mushrooms, orchids, water oats, and plums for processing.

We wanted to try what is known as the "Sun Moon Lake Cuisine Combo" which contains 10 different kinds of dishes but since there were only 2 of us, we picked 4 of which all were uniquely of Sun Moon Lake specialties. Do remember to tell them to go easy on the serving when ordering.

SUN MOON LAKE SHRIMP

The shrimps were caught from the lake and were about 3-4 cm in size. They were deep-fried with garlic, spring onion and basil. I don’t really like prawns but this dish was really appetizing ~ sweet and crunchy.
