I kind of agree with Pinholecam on that each lens have its own character. Just explore with what's on hand. Of course when one is indulged with a lens type one will seek out the lens that produces the needed image with the character of the lens.

Also if possible explore longer or shorter focal length other than the standard 50mm.

Helios 103, Helios 44, J8, all the Jap brands legacy 50/1.7, 1.8, 2.
All cost not much at all and have their own character and good points.
The Japs were no fools (as much as the westerners would like to think and scoff at their early efforts).
Their lenses and success now is testament of it.
Even those Russian lenses.
How to pay $35-70 and get all metal build with rounded and many aperture blades?
Yes, those Russian lenses have that.
Also own character or copied character (using the CZ lens formulas)

Make sure it V2 and condition is good... Canon LTM has a reputation of hazing within the lens elements. Do a good check first... If everything looks ok, the price is pretty reasonable. I sold mine, which is a cosmetically and optically pristine condition copy for 450...
