BnS deal or no deal?

SMS the seller, informing him of this thread, and giove him a chance to apologise for his actions or make it right.

Meanwhile, save the weekend for your family's celebrations and decide what you want to do on Monday.

BVelieve me, these matters can embroil you.

Thank's I'll do that

I wanna share this SMS that pissed me:

"Not playing games here, but just received a ### offer. If u match it, I'll give it to you since u were first, and I think the box will do good as a present"

Focus on bringing the best for your boy's birthday!

That's just plain mean.

But I would suggest not posting anything more till you receive a reply, and then decide what you want to do (reveal everything or ... ). What you say now may work against you later.

Take Two's right.

Live and let live. The thing one can do is to ensure one doesn't do it as well.

Not to defend anyone in anyway but here's a thought:
- Did the messages contain the words "bid" or "buy now"?
- Did such offers mention any subject to conditions?

A buyer can mention "offer to purchase item, subject to inspection" and then back out.
A seller can also argue that the buyer did not confirm to buy, he could also back out.

I offer my sympathies, but I think you should always prepare for alternatives or back ups just in case.
After all, this is CS.

If you feel sufficiently slighted, then name the seller and post a link to his thread.

I just wanna share with you this bad experience that I had at the BnS.
I read a post for a camera that interest me. So I tried to bargain immediately. The seller agreed at my price. We were just arranging time and venue of our meeting and I recalled sms'ing "It would be best If I can get it tomorrow because my son is celebrating his birthday this weekend, so this cam will be put to use on that day". . Then after a while this seller replied that another a bidder has given a HIGHER PRICE. The seller lamented that he can still let go of the cam if I can match the higher price. I'm not sure if he's telling the truth or just trying to increase the price then I said "my price stays and I thought we had a deal". The seller then replied that another NEW bidder has given a higher price and preferable to his schedule then said "sorry". I find this very unethical to his part, changing a deal from one to another. I was so pissed that I didn't get a good night sleep.

Agreed hahah! This says it the best!

You'll be surprised; a lot of people have gotten so used to it, they actually accept it as a kind of 'what to do, that's just the way it is' situation and not stand up for what's right. Another side of the coin is that there will be resistance in threads like these because some will want to preserve an environment where such practises are allowed and tolerated.

The affordable legal avenue is small claims - S$10 to put a claim in. I do hope the buyer in this case has the evidence to prove the acceptance of the contract.

The affordable non-legal avenue is - simply post his name here :)

Unless there is an affordable legal avenue and people are willing to take them, the only option is to let it go (and possibly be guilty of hiding the facts and encouraging such practises), or stand up and name names and list details (if one has the evidence).

It's never easy, doing the right thing in life, because not everyone will understand. Some, in fact, will condemn you for stepping up to the plate or even call you a whistle-blower or try to ridicule your actions.

Good points tskye. Clarity and absolutes, as well as written records are crucial to any successful trade, in the absence of honor and honesty.

After all, this is CS

You illustrate my earlier point eloquently.

I kanna such problem on BnS section here before.

Initially seller A and I (I was the buyer) agreed on a price and we were even discussing(through sms) on when and where to deal. Then he stopped replying. After 2 hours or so, he sms me saying someone offer a higher price and he will sell me if I can match it. I replied, "How much?". Then he stopped replying again.

Another hour or so later, he(seller A) replied back with a slightly higher than our initial agreed on price, while me on the other hand, already in discussion with another brother(seller B) who is selling the same product. So I told seller A I pass. Then guess what seller A replied next, he said actually there is no higher offer lah, he was just saying what if got another buyer who is willing to pay a higher price. Then he went on to say the product is still mine and we can deal anytime at the initial agreed price.:bsmilie:

Bcoz of that Ai mai ai mai atitude, I ended up buying from seller B, who although asked for a slightly higher price, was kind enough to even show me how to test the item for defect.

will never say this kind of lie to other buyers, provided really got a higher bidder then i just info the other buyer involved about the rival nick and let them go settle their issues themselves.

I think its not really Ai mai ai mai, the first seller is its simply trying to con you. Quite blatant.

hey look on the bright side at least he dont change his mind the last min when you are goin meet him for the deal and waste your time travelling
i think it quite common in B&S that these thing happen
just forget what happen and look for other deal maybe you can find a better deal than the previous one :)

well that the way it is , somtime even the meetup, some buyer will take 15mins to discount the price further. her abit scratch there some loose . here and there , well take it easy in the buy and sell . but i do say there some great seller around . even some willing to keep the item until u are free . for u guys u know who u r

It happens to me also, but i was the seller this time., we agreed on my offer, settled the place and time and while im on my way to the meeting place the buyer sms me and back-out and told that he cannot buy anymore the item because he just overspend the money. how are you going to deal on that kind of f...g buyer? well as they say... its normal on BnS. cheers!

This one is best, actually confessed that he is trying to chop u.

So many are saying 'this normal', 'that normal', 'forced to eat **** normal'.

Is it really normal?

Make it abnormal then, and help make CS a honest and honorable place to trade.

Start by having records of ANY discussions and negotiations, be it via SMS, PM, E-mail, chat or messanger. Even record down verbal transactions, because that could be the make or break factor - the 'I say, you say' predicament.

Be CRYSTAL CLEAR in your communications, and practise courteous and speedy communications.

Most of all, let it be known publically that CSers will NOT tolerate anymore inconsiderate, unfair or dishonest trade practises.

Only then will the behaviour and ettiquete of traders in CS improve.

With an open and free Internet world and hiding behind an online identity, there's little one can do to actually uphold such laws. Still, it doesn't mean that one should follow such practices. You don't have to leap off a cliff just because everyone else is doing so.

I don't believe CS should enforce such behaviour as I think this is based on the morals and ethics of individuals. My advice is: Regardless of what people are doing, just do what's ethically right. Put yourself in other people's shoes and if you don't like it, make sure you don't do it either.
