Black Paint Brassing - real or fake

I've been researching on black paint, and I discovered that some brassed BP do not appear to look natural. I know there are fake BPs in the market. My question is: are there also faked brassing also?

For example, you can see this M2 Body and this RIGID 50. Hey wow! They appear to be the same pair, broken up for sale separately!

Pic for easy reference.

If you look at the brassing, I cannot imagine how those hard to reach areas also brassed so thoroughly. It looks like its been brassed from artificial means, not brassed from hands. How can the white letter also can brassed away so perfectly until got no white paint left at all? Use needle and dig the white paint also cannot be so clean lor....hard to believe

The reference point I usually consider is Wongsan's "Vietnam war" M2, the one that Wongsan reunited. If this is a benchmark for brassing from Vietnam war, then what about the one above on ebay? Vietnam war so lagi fierce also never brass the shutter speed dial lei, how come the one on ebay got half the shutter speed dial brassed away....maybe the ebay M2 went thru even more jialat war than Vietnam hor

Another one we see before on ebay. This one belong to some big time journalist. I think also war photog. You see, even this tualiap photog also never brassed as much as the ebay one. Also, notice only certain places got brass. If you try to fantasize, you can see the brassing happens where the fingers/thumb comes into contact with the body. Those are the parts that brass. In this sense, I consider this the most natural brassing.

You notice all the brassing occur at certain places related to the lever rewind.

My conclusion is: Brassing is supposed to happen only at certain places. When you see a piece where the brassing is too nice, that might indicate brassing is artificial.

If got any shifu got more pointer to add, I will be most grateful if u duo duo zhi jiao.

Yah lah...BP interesting coz of brassing mah. Brassing supposed to tell its own 'history' or 'story' - can be read like a book wan. If an M body got some strange brassing, like this one

WTF What happen to the back hah? Is that a bowling alley on M2 body hah? Or somebody use the M2 like credit card and keep swiping it hah

The way I look at it, not all brassing is sandpaper or natural sweat....I suspect some ppl pour chemical to remove the black paint, and then repaint it wan lor...If the brassing look unnatural, i think seller should tell the 'story' and 'history', otherwise hor....I think hard to believe the brassing is natural

For the benefit of doubt.. i guess its more than just who the owner was and what it went through..

There might be other factors such as sweaty palms, storage of camera and whether the camera was used in seasonal places. Leather gloves don by the user might have also contributed to the brassing, artificial or not :)

For reference, this is Magnum Photog Ian Berry's M. Dunno what he rub his camera with everyday...so shiny

If my camera is so shiny, I think maybe Magnum willing let me join lei

Don't know anything about brassing but from what I see, it appears that the previous owner may have used something like "Dymo" tape to label the camera with his / her name. When you peel off the label I guess some of the black paint may also be peeled off together.

Btw hor... ZoomP didnt invent "BP" hor. For those who went to the first Melaka trip, do you guys remember who passed me the sandpapers??? :-) Some distinguished gentleman with a classic nick. :-)

Anyway, this is real brassing.

I think people like the brassing because of the "unique" aesthetics more than anything else...

i still wonder why some (i said some, ah, not all..) people care so much about the cosmetics if the ones with brassing look much more macho..

Some people like their things to be perfect.

Chrome is the best!!!!

No need to worry about if the camera is brassing at the "right" locations or if the brassed camera is "fake" or "real" brassing.

Leica should have a series of limited edition cameras such as fully brassed MPs.

Chrome = Luke Skywalker = chick magnet

BP = Darth Vader = chicks regard black cameras as nerd indication

brassed BP = war camera = Robert Capa wannabe = ultimate phallic symbol

Old parents question why people buy washed...ripped apart...torn-up...patched up...new jean?

Do you define the "torn" or "patched up" as "not real" because is not worn by you?

Yes, these are designer made jean...and factory machine washed and purposely torn then patched up for that "comfortable old rugged look".

Different people like different style...as long you are happy...:vhappy:...
