Hi bros,

I've been getting problems with my M9 of late. Pictures taken with the camera have a black spot appearing on them on the right hand corner. You can see the photos here; I've outlined the dot in red.

I thought this was a lens issue but after swapping lenses, the black dot remains. Is this a sensor associated problem--is it dust or a dead pixel? I'm going to send it to Leica service center tomorrow but just wanted to know if anyone experienced this issue before because my M9 is only 5 months old.

Thanks!

Hi Fari,
Reckon you have it check out by Andrew.

Just curious did you leave your M9+lens (cap off) out in direct sunlight?

Have you tried using the blower and inspecting it?

Looks like dust to me. Could be oil splatter or some other stuff though.

Hi bolim,

Nope. My lens is always on the M9 with the cap on when I'm not using it. And I tested with 2 lenses, including 1 which I do not use frequently. And I leave all the lens and camera body in dry box when not in use. What happens if your leave you lens cap off in direct sunlight?:o

Thanks Yoricko.

Strange. How can oil get in? It's sealed most of the time.

i think it's dust too. use a blower to clear it.

Do not use a blower as it just spreads the dust around if there is dust in the 1st place. Bring it in to Leica at International building on the 6th floor. Best give Adeline a call to make an appointment 1st. I just sent two cameras in this morning to get the sensors cleaned and collected it 45 mins later. You would be surprised at the amount of dust that does get on the sensor no matter how careful you are. Do not try and clean it yourself unless you know what you are doing.

Good luck with resolving the issue.

sensor dirty.. in the past i only used one single lens without swapping also get multiple black dots/dust inside .. probably the dust was sucked in during focusing..

Looks like a dust spot. Try to blow it off. If it's too stubborn, you may want to try the wet swap method if you dare to DIY or else bring down to Leica Singapore.

No big deal. Are you shooting at low aperture? Try shooting in high aperture if it doesn't appear then likely to be a dust spot.

Or maybe, you've captured a black "ghost" floating? haha!

Ya bro. I notice that too. It appears when I shoot at F8 and above. Aiyoh..heart pain man. But as long as it isn't a dead pixel, I'm pretty ok. Otherwise, I'll be going on holiday without a camera :(

And thanks to all the bros for their kind feeback! I'll be bringing it in to the Leica Service Center later for cleaning.

Cheers

looks to be some dust.

try pointing the camera to the sky, and shooting at f8 - f16... that'll give you a good indication of the amount of dust you have on the sensor.

Hi bros,

Just got the camera back after visit to service center. Yes, it was dust on the sensor. Andrew was kind enough to clean it for me and also to give some tips on cleaning. Nice fella.
