I started asking him for some of the detail i wanted to know for me to be convinced to make a deal with this guy.I ask some of the basic info. that i want to know regarding the 50D like:

1.How many shutter count has been used? (Seller ans: around 3K base on his CF)
2.why he wanted to sell his item? (Seller ans: he's ongoing school so he had no more time for his camera.)

As for the me as buyer i assume based on his answer that he used the camera for short period as the SC reach only 3K so i become more interested even his asking price is around S$900.But i started to deal until we agree to sell for S$850.I told him that i want to check the actual shutter using my laptop ones we start the deal on the day i'm going to meet him.

That friday afternoon(nov.03,2011) i meet him for us to start the deal, i used my own CF card for me to test as he did not include the card on the deal.Outer appearance is fine so i ask him the USB cable so i can check the Actual Shutter Count but he only give me video cable and when i ask him the USB cable he said don't have only that cable include in the package pretending as if he really don't know.
So i discuss with him that because i cant check it that time i need assurance if the info is not right base on what he give me i will return him so we come out with personal warranty for few days.i pay him the amount of S$850 for what we discuss.

When i reach home i check the Actual Shutter Count(using my friend cable) it turn out that the actual Shutter is already 16450 way far from the thing he told me that its only around 3K according to his CF card. I SMS him telling that this is what i found out.So my first idea is i wanted to return him because this is not what we agree for. I suspect already thats why he never include the CF card and specially the USB cable that i'm going to use before we make our deal was all not there where he stated that all package include and all accessories.I felt that i've got Cheated.

We made an agreement before the deal that if i find something that is not right i will return to him so i send him SMS right after i verify the SC but it seems like he ignore me, so i call him and he cancel all my call and he replied that its not his problem anymore i already both this and if i want i sold the 50D if i want to get back my money.Which is i did'nt expect that this guy will behave to me like this even we have an agreement that for anything wrong i go and look for him and return the item and give me back my money.
Even to negotiate i also did if he don't want to return me my money give me some refund coz the price is not right already just for us to settle the issue but he claim that its not his problem anymore.

I'm sharing you guys what i experienced to this person how he cheated me just to make more money out of it.So i hope i'm the only or the last person he can play tricks after this thats why i make effort to share with you what he have with me. Im not spoiling his market if he want to make money by doing this please be true and make sure if u agree with the terms and condition u follow don't think of your self only, people simply buy item here to enjoy what they buy not to have regret for such a person like you who just making your pocket good and leaving other people unhappy.stop your trick and make a real deal.

in the first place when u meet up, you shd have borrowed your fren's cable and check on the spot.

anyway damage has been done. and the shutter life is typically at 100k and you still have a lot of mileage left.

there are always risks involved with buying from used market. if cannot stomach such risks, then buy new.

Thanks for sharing..I guess it's hard to seek any recourse from seller if he/she doesn't want to respond to you.

But 16,450 is not that bad altogether. Still have plenty of life left. Buying 2nd has its fair share of risks, and I will normally not base on trust or gentlemen's agreement. On one hand, u could have held back a portion of the agreement amount (say $50-100) until u have checked shutter count and it is per what seller stated, but subject to his agreement of course.

TS, no offence, you could have walked from the deal if you are not sure. If you still decide to go ahead with the deal, you assume the risk. You brought a laptop, and you never bring a USB cable? hmm.

16k shutter is no big deal. Shutter count is only a statistic, and not a definite indicator of the exact number of shutter actuation you will really get.

Just move on.

You join CS just for us to read your lengthy complain?

You should just call off the deal if you are unsure. You are lucky cause 16k sc is not that bad.

Anyway welcome to ClubSnap.

Assuming Josep gave the whole story, I can understand his frustration.

As the members here mentioned, 16k SC is not that big a deal. However, the seller (joellimsien), either internationally or unintentionally, sold something under false pretences. And he refuses to make any effort to correct the situation. If I'm Josep, I'll feel pissed off!

Now, instead on 3k SC, he says 15k SC and I found out it was 16k, I might accept that as an honest mistake. But 3k versus 16k,... Well, you make the call.

It a prey and predator world... Depend how one gg to survive...

extra 100 can get 5D body. hah.

anyway 16k not much la.

who ask you go unprepared, your own fault for nt taking the proper measurements.

You could have just cancelled the deal.

3K or 16k is not big deal in the scheme of things. Just take the camera and enjoy.

But take this as a learning experience not just in buying cameras but in any deal you do later in life.
If there are uncertainty, hold back something to give you some leverage. In your case, once you released
all the money, you lose all leverage to negotiate :nono:. You could have held back a 100 bucks. If he don't
want to talk to you, well and good - you got yourself a 100 bucks discount.

I would not say TS is to blame for not bringing the USB cable. Seller stated the sale come with standard package & all accessories.

Lucky its only 850, dun worry too much, enjoy the cam.

So TS, did he look like a student? I saw him posting many times on BnS, selling alot of stuff like BG-E5 grip, 18-55mm lens, and suspiciously alot of bodies like 400D, 350D, 500D, 550D, 50D. As a student, would he have so much money to buy so many bodies? Unless his parents are loaded of course. But even then, still abit fishy.

Move along TS, forget about this person and look on the bright side, 16k isn't very high if you compare it to the 100k shutter life expectancy.

I also encountered one guy trying to bargain an item from me, asking lower price with the reason that he is a student, no money, but check at his BnS thread :)
beware for giving this kind of guy lower price, he is using student title for his advantage

Nowadays students are different from the olden days students. Olden days students are really poor..

These days students are bloody rich with latest smartphone, laptops, tablets, eat at restaurants....

What poor??? I would not believe it. If he say he's poor, I will ask to see what Hp he is using.

Definitely, but in this case, i mean that his record is showing that he is more MERCHANT than a STUDENT, have 3 pages full of BnS transaction in his profile, getting cheaper price by asking for pity seems work for him

Probably a student who works as a runner for a merchant

I won't give a discount to so call "students". I have listed a price, buy it if you agree with the price, ignore it if you don't. Student or not makes no difference. If the student is short on cash, maybe he don't need to make the purchase or save up till he can meet the price.

please don't make assumptions that all students are like this!!! although using the "ima student" excuse is quite ridiculous, there are some students and or young people serious about photography and are willing to make honest deals. don't just write off a potential buyer or seller just because he/she looks young! some of us are serious about photography!

No one is writing off a potential buyer or seller because of their age. Also, no one is assuming all students are like this. In fact, I am a student too. I just don't get why people use the "I'm a student" excuse to lower down the price. Photography is a hobby to them, it's not a need and if they have a shortage on cash, maybe saving the money for a rainy day might be a wiser choice than to spend it on a lens or flash.

Yepz! I'm a student. :) that explains my cheaper camera assets. :)
